... Dec 2012 -- Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan , Comoros, Socotra
Dear folks,Thanks first of all... been reading info provided by others on the countries I listed in subject.
So, I am currently in Addis Ababa and looking to travel for 2.5 weeks from mid-december. Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan , Comoros, Socotra Island are my dream destinations. I know I will only be able to make it 2 or 3 of these. Am leaning towards Eritrea, Comoros and Socotra
Seems like getting a visa is extremely difficult for all these countries ... I'd appreciate some specific insights on getting into these places especially Socotra Island....
Cheers,
DL

For Eritrea just getting there from Addis is difficult enough, let alone the visa. You will have to fly in via a third country, Sudan or Yemen and I'm not sure if Yemen is still an option. When you finally get there there are then severe restrictions on travelling around within the country - good luck!3
What passport do you hold (i.e.: from what country)?Comoros could be visa on arrival.
You are more likely to get info about Socotra if you ask about it in the Middle East branch.

Socotra might be easy, depending on your nationality. My tour operator on Socotra got my visa for me in a few days (Socotra Eco-Tours, and I'm Canadian). You certainly seem to like unusual destination. I went to the Danakil last week. It was incredible. I would certainly recommend it over Djibouti. Mind you, I would recommend falling down the stairs over going to Djibouti, but I really wanted to dive with the whale sharks.
Good luck,
Colin
PS: I'm going to Yemen the day after tomorrow, so I am only "assuming" my visa is OK!

i hold an ECOWAS passportI don't know the requirements for people of that part of the world. As you could fly to Comoros with Kenya Airways, you could take a look here to know entry requirements for people of your nationality (BTW, as you can see in the web linked, the specific country that issued your passport is a relevant piece of info) although the web linked isn't an official source it should have updated info.

Comoros visa you can get on arrival, I believe the treatment is the same to all nationalities.9
Socotra visa is not difficult to be arranged: contact one of the local agency and you will have it very soon.My personal suggestion is for info@unexploredsocotra.com and info@socotradream.com.
Prices and services are more or less the same for all agency of the island
your trip seems to be a wonderful adventure. good luck!!
