Last min trip to Ethiopia...what to do?The good news: I'm going to Ethiopia :) The bad news: I'll only be there for 4 days :(
I actually had a trip planned to Kenya and I found I'll have 4 days free, so Ethiopia it is! I will be flying into ADD. I would like to see Lalibela and another site (possibly Aksum, the Simien Mtns, or Lake Tana). However, I have nooo idea how long it takes to get to any of these places from Addis, the cost, or anything of the sort.
I've read some posts that say its best to purchase plane tickets to Lalibela once in Ethiopia. Ok. Done. No problem. But once in Ethiopia/Lalibela, how do I find a tour guide for Lalibela? How much do they generally charge? Anyone have any recommendations on who to go with if I just want a 1 day tour of Lalibela? Also, any suggestions on where to stay? Comfort is not a big deal as I can sleep ANYWHERE. My only concerns are cleanliness and safety.
Also, I want to go sightseeing/trekking in the Simien Mtns. Do they have any 1 or 2 day options for this? What do they typically cost? Do I wait to book those once in Ethiopia as well? If this is not a possibility, where else should I visit other than Lalibela? I will save my tour of Addis for the final day before my departure.
I have one convenience. I have a friend who is already in Ethiopia, so I can ask him to do all the leg work for me. I just need to know what to tell him to do...
Thanks for your advice in advance!

1Flights are generally cheap. You can fly to Lalibela and see it in one day if you have to. We stayed at Alif Paradise Hotel which was good
There is no need for a tour guide. Just pay an entrance fee for the churches and a guide will approach you to take you around.
Treks around the Lalibela escarpments can be done with Tesfa Tours. We did a 3 day trek but I am sure you can do 2 days.
From Lalibela you can fly to Gonder and or Aksum if you have time.
I would not spend too much time in Addis!

4I would say, fly to Lalibela from Addis, stay 1 night, the next day fly to Gondar do the visits in the afternoon and evening, then the day after drive to Bahir Dar, 3 hours drive, you get to see some nice coutrny side, then the after do a boat trip and fly back to Addis with the 8.30 pm flight. I would skip Axum.

5Thanks for the responses and suggestions. I agree 4 cities in 4 days by 4 flights may be a little ambitious for me. I may try the Lalibela - Gondar - Bahir Dar itinerary. It also seems like everything can be arranged (maybe better arranged) once "on location". So, I guess I will wait on booking accommodations.
LizaD, are the boat trips to take you back to Gondar, or are they just a brief tour around and then its another 3 hr drive back to Gondar? Is it possible to fly out of Bahir Dar?
Also, what about Debark? Anyone have any suggestions or information about the mtns?

6The boat trip is to visit the principal site of attraction in Bahir Dar, the churches/monasteries of lake Tana, it takes at least 4 hours, if you only visit the Ura Kidane monastery, more if you iwsh to see other churches.
yes bahir dar has 2 flights a day to Addis, one early morning around 8.30 am, one at8.30 pm

8I do not think you have time for the Simiens. If you want to walk ,the escarpments and rural experiences are quite good around Lalibela.
