Best place in Thailand in May

I am going to be in Thailand in the first half of May. Given that May is the rainy season, where is the place to be considering the weather?

Make sure you travel with a lot of strong insect repellant. I got eaten day after day!

It's only the rainy season on the West coast. The east side/ gulf islands are beautiful, and May is one of the hottest, sunniest months. So, stick to the gulf islands and you'll be good to go.

Up north, rainy season won't get real intense till July.

Yeah I'd also say go for the lower eastern gulf like Ko Tao/Phangan/Samui which is in a rain shadow roughly April-Sep. Up north you're taking your chances in May. It's usually either hot as hell or surprise run-for-cover downpour.

For the beach east coast is fine ,Hua Hin, Koh Samet, Koh Chang,Koh Kood,Koh Tao,Koh Samui,Koh Phangan.
Phuket - Krabi in first of May can go still but might not good for swimming or out to the sea (if lucky there probably no rain till mid of month but don't expect the weather in these day , it always changing)

Other places, Khao sok at Surat Thani,
Khao Yai National Park at Nakhon Ratchasima,Ayutthaya,Kanjanaburi province.

I would not recommend Ko Chang in May, as it more or less qualifies as "west coast" and the sea can be very rough with dangerous swimming conditions at the onset of SW monsoon season. Every year there are drownings in May there and on places like Phuket where unaware tourists get caught in dangerous rips and sudden big waves. More safe and sunny in the lower gulf esp. east coast bays on the three islands Tao/Phangan/Samui and mainland Chumphon/Prachuap coast.
