Help with my itinerary 5-17 february

Hi all.

I have been spending lots of time lurking around on the forum and my trip is taking form.

5 feb: We will fly in to San Jose on 5 of february. We will stay at an hotel near the airport for conviency.

6-10 feb: Shuttle service picks us up at 6 am at our hotel taking us to Sierpe. To Sierpe to Drake Bay. 4 nights at Manolos Cabinas with tours every day. Thinking of the Corcovado tour, Isla de Caño for diving, Bug Tour and maybe one more. Any tour we absolutely shouldn´t miss? Is 4 nights enough or should we stay a couple of days more? If you are really into hiking and animalwatching will the Corcovado tour the hotel arrange be enough?

10-13 feb: Leaving Drake Bay early and heading towards Uvita. We will probobly use the ordinary bus system. Think we will focus on relaxing for a couple of days. Any suggestions for good value for money hotels/b&b? What is there to do in the area?

14-16: Still haven't decided. What would be a good stop on our way back to San Jose? Lodge inland or stay by the beaches? Looking for a place that is reachable by the the bus system. Any suggestions is welcomed.

16-17: Will probobly spend our last in San José.

Any feedback on the itinerary is welcomed. Thanks in advance

Sounds like you are doing all the right stuff in Osa. We basically did the same. It's great!

There are lots of good spots on your way up the coast. They have buses that go from Siepre all the way up the coast that are pretty easy to use. Depends what you want to do but I loved the beaches up along the Pacific and didn't want to go inland.

About 2 hours north of Siepre is a tiny sleepy beach town of Dominical. One of my favs spots in our 3wk vacation. It's right off the main freeway and easy to find. Not much there except a few small restaurants and bars but its just so relaxing and chill. We stayed at Tortilla Flats. Private room with a little hammock out front 50ft from the beach for like 40usd. It was great.

Farther north you have Jaco which is bigger and a not as secluded. Lots more places to stay and bars and people. Quite the party spot on weekends.

Continuing north is Manuel Antonio. This is a very touristy park but the beaches are nice and you'll see tons of wildlife. Not as authentic as Osa since there are so many ppl around but it's nice. The monkeys will come right up to you.

Anyways, just my opinions as we basically did the same thing last Feb up the coast and loved it.

Good luck and have fun!

You would be best advised to go from DB to San Pedrillo RS for wildlife viewing, via boat, and stay overnight if possible. (permits required). Lodge can arrange, reserve now. Not sure is Isla Cano is back open, check into that too...the RS was closed to rebuild the latrines/pollution issue last year.

Take the boat from DB to Sierrpe, not the bus, much faster, and more fun.

The coast from Playa Ochojal to Playa Dominical is littered with places to stay and relax. Playa Uvita, Bellena and the I suggest stay a few nights max in Playa Dominical, this a pretty little town, but also a one horse surf town, its not a great place for a beach swim, its a surf break, and a shallow one at that, more broken boards and bones than anywhere else in CR, a strong rip tide as well. Dark sand also, making it hot to walk on.

Quepos/Manuel Antonio is just 30 minutes north of year, you could even hire a taxi if you miss the bus, some people eat/drink in Dominical and move on. Quepos is just 3.5 hours from SJ with many busses easy to use. I would avoid Jaco-Hell like the plague, promise.

Thanks for your kind input.

Here is the changes i have made since i made this thread:

5 feb: We will fly in to San Jose on 5 of february. Will be staying at Hotel El Rodeo near the airport.

6-11 feb: Shuttle service picks us up at 6 am at our hotel taking us to Sierpe. Boat to Drake Bay. We see the shuttle and boat ride a way to see the country. Assuming one don't see as much when flying and the price is three times higher for two persons as we need to bring our backpacks. 5 nights at Manolos Cabinas with tours every day. Diving and snorkling first day. Horseback riding and swimming at waterfalls the second day. Overnight stay at Sirena between 9-10. Leaving 11th.

11-14 feb: Leaving Drake Bay early and heading towards Uvita. We will probobly use the ordinary bus system. Think we will focus on relaxing for a couple of days. Staying at Pacific Dream. First Swedes ever staying there. Woud like to do a canopy tour. Would Uvita be a good place for that.

14-16: Still haven't decided. What would be a good stop on our way back to San Jose? Any Cloud forrests on the way back? Hot springs?

16-17: Will probobly spend our last in San José.
