Booking flight Kathmandu - Pokhara from Europe
Hiwe (2 people) are going to do ABC in December, we are arriving in Kathamndu on Dec 16th around lunchtime and would liek to get on the last flight to Pokhara the same day (leaving around 15:30) - can anyone recommend a way to book tickets online while we are still in Europe?
I used the email-booking form from TaraAir but did get no response
Regards
Silvia

The on-line booking systems of the Nepal domestic airlines is archaic and not very reliable, if you are successful with making a booking you then have to send your credit card details to them by open email and as a lot of people are understandably reluctant to do this the only other way of securing your tickets would be to book them through a TAAN registered agent and have them meet you at the international terminal with them. Then if your international flight is delayed or 2 planes land at once causing a backlog at immigration, or your luggage is slow / lost then you might well miss your connection
Because of all the above I would either buy a ticket on arrival and then wait until the next morning and fly then or catch a Tourist Bus or arrange for a private car to meet you at the airport and drive you to Pokhara – The cost of the latter is around $130 so you could save yourselves some money as well as stress and still be in Pokhara the same evening as you arrive in Nepal
Good Luck and Happy Safe Travels

Hi astaYeah its correct that the online booking of flight in Nepal is not reliable as in others countries. So I suggest you not to book the flight from Europe. Its better to arrive at Kathmandu airport and book the flight there are many flight to pokhara in single day as December is off season u can get flight the same day too. If you need further information you can send me message too.
Have a good trip.

Or contact an agent in Nepal (there are plenty mentioned in your Lonely Planet, I used Fujiyama treks - http://www.nepalhomepage.com/travel-and-transportation/trekking-agencies/fujiyama-treks-expedition-p-ltd.html - they were fine), and they'll get the flight for you. You should be able to transfer money to them electronically. But that won't solve the problem if your flight is delayed or there is any problem with your luggage.
Enjoy your trip.

I transfered money from my bank in the UK to their bank in Nepal - so no need to send card details by email. But you need to trust your agent - these are people I know, and they've always been very fair with me.6
can see lots of problems with using an agent. never mind the money transfer what about getting the ticket physically in your hand? the agent is in KTM town, you are in the airport and check-in has started......give me kittens......would have thought you could risk getting a flight when you arrive in dec. the international terminal is next to the domestic but it would be better to make it the following day. The Tara/yeti office is at Thamel crossroads and efficient- go straight there from arrival for a flight next day if all else fails

Hello everobodythanks for advises and comments.
I have no experience so far with travelling to Aisa or Nepal - we already have our visas - do we need to expect a long immigration procedure anyway (I counted on abut 1 hour to go through the border check and getting our luggage)?
Are there also often delays with international flights? I expect that of course for domestic flight but thought I could feel safe with the international flihgt schedule
I think we´ll either risk through the agent then or just see if we are lucky enough to get tickets at the airport for the same day

Hi SilviaThe time it takes to go through immigration can vary of course. Some factors are out of your control; the number of immigration desks open and whether your flight arrives shortly after another. One thing you can do is get to the immigration hall as quickly as you can so you are ahead of most of the other passengers on your flight. Once through immigration there is the lottery of waiting for checked bags. International flight delays are a lottery too. I
f you do book through an agent and send money by bank transfer check with your bank how much the charges will be and exactly how the total cost will be with the agent. If paying by credit card send your card details over several emails.
Good luck.

Book the flight once you land in KTM. There are several airlines flying that route so your chance of landing a flight should be quite good.http://www.flickr.com/photos/youngadventure/sets/72157629210025719/
