strange request- anyone travelling from siem reap to bangkok?
yesterday I was taking the bus from siem reap to bangkok (the trip was $10, and absolutely awful) and just before i walked through the thai immigration, I saw a beggar on the street.I think he was a victim of a napalm bomb. his face had been burnt off- he had no eye brows or eyelids, just eyeballs sticking out of his face. the cartilage of his nose wasn't there- he only had slits where they used to be as nostrils. likewise, his mouth was just a gaping slit without lips. you can't miss him.
My strange request: if anybody is travelling the same way, could they take a photo of him and send it to me? I know it sounds silly but for me, this guy gave me the strongest impression and memory of all my travels in Cambodia. Watching this guy gingerly pick up the 5 usd note I left him, and hold it out for a few seconds staring at it before he recognised what it was, was just everything i had learned and felt at the killing fields and s21 in phnom penh in one moment.
many thanks if anyone can fulfill my strange request! And if you pass him by, spare a thought and some change for him.

nice buses them 10 dollar ones..Ive never had a problem with them.
If you understand that its going to be a day of circus performers acting like tour guides, and you have plenty of time up your sleeve and are happy to sit back and take life as it comes...then its the best 10 bucks ever !!
Wait a few months.. you'll understand.// wink//
.
may I ask why you didnt get the shot yourself?

haha yeah I suppose you get what you pay for. the main annoyance was that the trip took 3 hours longer than we were told (total of 12 hours, we were told 9) but hey, that's bangkok traffic for you.I didn't get a shot because I was silly and took too many photos at Angkor and thought I wouldn't need to charge my camera as I thought it would be a boring bus trip.

I came through the border but did not see this man.For other travellers coming from Cambodia to Thailand at Poipet, we got out of Cambodia without any problem and walked to the Cambodian border point. With other foreigners we queued for 4 hours and 10 minutes, outside in 32 degrees, before getting through the Thai immigration. Part of the delay was caused by touts taking Japenese and other foreigners to the front of the queue for a fee.
We then had to wait another hour for the next minibus from Poipet to Bangkok. Bussing from Siem Reap to Bangkok is damn cheap at just $10 but it is a bloody awful and uncomfortable trip. Flying from Siem Reap is so expensive.
