advice on travel from bublin to Liverpool-Glasgow-Edinburgh

I will joy a group tour to Ireland for 8 days between March to April,13.
Then I want to extend my trip for another week by going to Scotland via Liverpool, since I have never been there and travel toward Glasgow, my final destination will be Edinburgh and fly back from EDI to US.

I would like to have some plan on my extended trip to Scotland on budget, for transportation, hostels and what to see. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Ryanair fly from Dublin to Liverpool several times a day, get on their website asap and see how cheap you can get a flight. From the airport there is the number 500 airport express bus to the city centre twice an hour, the 82A is also twice an hour and is a little cheaper but almost as quick. You also have the 80A and the 86A which are more frequent but take a little longer. In my opinion don't get a taxi. It will cost about £20 as opposed to around £2 on the bus (A bit more on the 500).

Once in Liverpool there is plenty to see, depends on what you like. Leaving for Scotland get a train from Lime Street to Wigan or Preston and change there for Glasgow. Check out Virgin Trains website for cheap fares, also the National Rail website or Seat 61 for further info, both are very helpfull. In general the earlier you book your train tickets the better.

totally agree with post #1 the earlier you book train and flighst the cheaper they generally are. I live in Glasgow and visit my brother in Liverpool often and if I book train tickets as soon as they go on sale I can usually get a return for between £25-£30. Glasgow to Edinburgh the Megabus from Buchanan Street to Edinburgh bus station the prices start from £1 and upwards again if you book as early as possible the prices will be low. The bus and train to Edinburgh are roughly the same travel time of about an hour. In both Glasgow and Edinburgh there are a lot of things to do and see, depending what you are interested in. I recently took a tour with two friends from Australia which was very good from Glasgow George Square up to Loch Ness and back in the same day it was £39 for a guided tour, bus and boat. Usually to book tours you can go into the tourist information office at George Square however they start booking up fast so I would recommend possibly booking in advance if you can. We used Rabbies to book this tour, theyre are also a few other tours you may be interested in. Hope this helps.
