Help - first time backpacking S Vietnam!

Hello!!!

My partner and I have decided on a Vietnam honeymoon next July (i know its rainy season, but were limited because we have a little boy and are reliant on our parents to look after him while we are away).

Soooooo we have 11 days in vietnam. Weve decided on dubai on the way home for 3 days of luxury. So we can commit to the backpacking lifestyle and experience vietnam as best we can in the short time we have.

So basically I'm happy to absorb as much information as possible! Advice on where to go, how to get there, where to eat, sleep, anything is very much welcomed!!!!

We'd very much like to incorporate the Dalat mountains (?) and the Mekong into our trip some how!

Thanks!!!

With only 11 dyas I would stick to either the South to Central Vietnam or North to Central Vietnam. If doing the south, Dalat,Mui Ne,HCMC,Mytho,Can Tho.,it would all come down to how adventurous you are and how you want to travel.

it depends how long you want to stay in each place. start north and head south or go the other way depending on where you fly in

Do a day trip to halong bay and another day trip to sapa. if you have time and overnight cruise in halong bay would be awesome but i went there for a day for a $30 tour and it was great.
Stay in hanoi for 2 days.
take a night train (cost me $65 but you could get it for $40 or so) to hue. stay in hue for 1 or 2 days.
if you want stuff tailored go to hanoi for 2 days, other than that i didn't really explore hanoi so can't say what elese was interesting.
I didn't go to dalat or na trang so i can't comment on them.
ho chi minh and the mekong for the rest of the time. flying there from hue cost me $65 but book early. if you don't they will go up to 80-100 i hink. don't take the bus, it was $30 and took my friends 30 hours.

qang binh province has some awesome caves you can check out in a day if you have time. i think it is 3 hours north of hue.

If you want stuff tailored and have it end up looking good then make that 3 days...

I went for 2 days and I think my stuff ended up ok- i went early on a Saturday and left late on a Sunday. Sorry I meant Hoi an to get stuff tailored, not hanoi.
Although you can get stuff tailored pretty much anywhere, hoian is meant to be the best though and they have good english. I got some shirts and a dress tailored in hue for really cheap. I feel like you can get cheaper tailoring in hue but again, quality is an issue.
HCM had heaps of tailors as well.

I also should mention when you're in HCM go to the Cuchi tunnels for a half day! A very worthwhile trip.

I would start in Hanoi ,old part for accom . If you can fit in Sapa well and good .Then Hoi An and down to Saigon .
Looking at your plan,, its a good plan for 20 days . With only 11 days I can see mucho time travelling and searching for accom . Then orientating . aah ,you have to slow down, taste the food and smell the flowers .

If you are flying in to the south stay in that area.
There are good bus connections HCMC to Da Lat in the central highlands.

Okay.
Plenty to see and do. For example:
HCMC can be seen in 3 days.
Few days in the Mekong delta.
One day to CuChi and Cao Dai temple
Day trip to Vung Tau by hydrofoil along the Saigon river. Go up the statue of Christ's arms for the view.

Hello,
I am Xuan, a teacher living in HCM City.
IF you fly to HCM first, you can contact me. I have some students who really love helping tourists backpack throughout the South of Vietnam. They can take you to the designated places by their motorbikes or help choose the best kinds of transportation. Of course, they can recommend you a lot of famous landmarks to visit and cheapest accomodation including homestay. With my experience, I am sure that you can save a lot of money if you travel with them. For more information, pls contact me at my number +84988023083 or my email add: athenaedu.hcm@gmail.com.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
