not sure how you could pull that one off, solohobo. from upala west on rt 4 is a straight shot to rt 1. south on rt 1 and turn for the road to rincon de la vieja -- well marked.of course, if you were trying to do some sneaky thing to drive "the back way" into rincon de la vieja, you would get lost. (it's pretty much impossible)

actually, tcecchi, you may not need a gps, depending on where you are going. if you are going to the major tourist attractions (arenal, monteverde, manuel antonio, rincon de la vieja, beaches) - you won't have a problem finding your way. a good road map, such as the one from mapcr.com will be very helpful (you can get it at amazon). you can also look here for distances, travel times and directions: http://www.yourtravelmap.com
