Guest house recommendation in chiang mai

I am travelling alone in Thailand and going to chiang mai next. I'd like to stay in a dorm in a guest house to meet new people - can anyone recommend a guest house with a good social scene, a good place to meet new people?

Thanks!

Not many people do dorms in Chiang Mai as guesthouses are so cheap. Might as well just get your own room. Regardless, there will be people hanging out in the restaurant. Best place to meet people is going to Zoe and Reggae Bar on Ratchaweti at night. 85% of backpackers who want some night life seem to go there nowadays.

Diva Guesthouse would be my choice - lovely people own/run it, and I met a good few people there.

I like Ginny Place myself mostly because of the owners and great food at Ginny Cafe. There are so many options that are comparable that it is just a matter of turning up. You will find something in no time at all.

Also check out the SOHOstel on Loy Kroh road, bling new place with dorms right in the heart of the action. Another one is FWD House with funky "box" beds.

Ginny place also gets my vote , good backpacker orientated Guesthouse with a great travel agent and a fantastic restaurant serving good local and western food .
In the evenings i found Heaven Beach a good hangout with a good crowd , live bands cheap beer ..
You will have no problem meeting other people here ..
