Oh dear I'm going to offend lots of people here and that's not my intention.

A bumbly is someone who "bumbles" around the mountains and isn't a serious climber/mountaineer.

Sorry. These days I'm barely a "bumbly" but back in the 70s....................

I'm with you Wigs, burn them. Burn them all. Legend says the only way to kill a pair is to commit them to fire, so bring on the petrol and lets rid the world of only equal to sandal-and-socks!

I've always found sandles and socks very comfortable.

I wore trekking socks and sandals for a few days in Norway (my boots had died, and it was too cold without socks) Several Norwegians complimented me on my sartorial elegance.....

One of my great or maybe greatgreatgrandmothers was Norwegian so that explains it.

"A bumbly is someone who "bumbles" around the mountains and isn't a serious climber/mountaineer."

"They label the wearer as a "bumbly"

Oh really? No serious climber/mountaineer wears zip-offs? On what evidence do you make that statement wigstan? I for one can certainly refute it personally. But no doubt you will not want to hear what climbing and mountaineering I have 'bumbled' my way up. Instead, you can read this review by a BRITISH climber. Of course he must be a 'bumbly'. Doesn't look like it in the pictures though.

I would suggest that the person who decides what pants to wear climbing based on whether they look 'hideous' or not, is more likely to be a 'bumbly'. A 'serious climber/mountaineer' decides what gear to buy based on PERFORMANCE, not looks.

Oh dear have I upset you! I'm sure you look gorgeous in your zip-offs! You little tinker you! (another British colloquialism by the way).

Toys have been returned to prams, and all that. Now we all just have to collectively panic over the imminent sale of LP!
