First time in Vietnam tips/suggestions
Hi allIts my first time in Vietnam. I only booked flight last week & leaving on Tues (4/12/12). Ive done a bit research on internet (a lot of info!) but looking for personal recommendations and experiences. Ill be in Vietnam for 4 weeks. So far my itinerary is:-
1. Arrive Hanoi x 5 days
2. Sapa
3. Halong Bay
4. Hue (only staying 1 day max)
5. Hoi-An
6. Na Trang
7. HCMC for Meekong Delta
9. Con Dao Islands (mainly for scuba diving)
10. HCMC - fly home
Just wondering whether anyone has suggestions/ recommendations for (1) tour company for Sapa (2) Tour/Junk for Halong bay (2) Should i stay 1 or 2 nights in Halong bay (3) Tour company for Meekong Delta over night and definitely want to do a homestay (4) Best area to stay in HCMC (5) Con Dao - not much info for this - anyone been and can recommend? (5) Accomodation on Con Dao is limited any recommendations? (6) Should i go to Mui Ne?
Also any other tips/suggestions most welcomed - perfer hearing about other travellers experiences then looking at google or following guide book!
Thanks so much!

For Halong Bay try Vega.5 days in Hanoi maybe too much or does that inc. Halong Bay?
Why only 1 day in Hue?
I would skip NHa Trang.

@#4 Nha Trang beach is one of the best beaches in Vietnam.Hmmmmm read Natgeo world's worst beaches...350 qualified, international travel experts disagree with your opinion.
@#8 above Herbie with over 7,000 posts wrote I would skip NHa Trang

Agree with above that Hue is worth more than one day. I usually spend at least three there.Best area to stay in HCMC?
In terms of what? Closeness to attractions? bars and other nightlife? Price?
Personally, I like the Dong Khoi area. there are quite good options at all prices there.
Nha Trang: is an okay place for entertainment, the Vinpearl is looking good now. The town itself has things worth seeing such as the cathedral, the temple with the large white Buddha, the Cham towers, the harbour area for a walk. however, I would not consider it a 'must see' place.

suggestions/ recommendations for (1) tour company for Sapa (2) Tour/Junk for Halong bay
I booked both tours with Vega and was very pleased with them. I would spend more than one night in Hue - at least two.

We enjoyed Hoi-an, halong and Hanoi best but the whole country is great and very cheap indeed. Hanoi is a great if chaotic city, really vibrant and with some great nightlife. Halong bay seems from another world but you will need to do some research about the tours as they vary in cost. Hoi-an has some of the best food and cheapest beer you will find anywhere. If you are also looking for some beach action we would recommend Mui Ne. If you are looking for cheap accommodation but you want some luxuries such as a pool and garden are then we would recommend Ngoc Bich hotel. Just ask at reception for their cheap backpacker rooms in front of reception.
