medical and travel insurance for CubaCan anyone recommend a company that will provide both medical and travel insurance (flight delay and/or cancellation) for Cuba? I know I can get medical insurance at Havana airport but I'd like to have general travel insurance as well. My credit card normally provides this but I didn't book the Cuba flight with a credit card. A friend went to Cuba in June and the flight from Havana to Cancun was delayed. She had to stay overnight in Cancun and rebook her flight to the States. It turned out to be very expensive.

2I think they may be a minor misunderstanding on travel insurance - when connecting to Cuba from the US to Cuba thru a transit city (like Cancun) - you actually have two separate itineraries/tickets.
That linkage with two separate itineraries is a challenge - and that linkage delay would not normally be covered.
There are many different type of travel policies out there - super wide variation - more traditional types of tour/flight policies that I have encountered would not cover the specific situation your friend encountered.
That particular upstream connect back thru Cancun can be a challenge - routing thru Mex City versus Cancun, if that is a option for you - reduces risk since those bigger body jets are much more consistent on arrival/departure schedules than the Cancun puddle jumpers.
Hope this has been helpful to you - have a great trip !

5AMEX's medical insurance "terms and conditions" state: "... Please note that in the event any coverage provided by this policy would be in violation of US economic or trade sanctions, such coverage shall be null and void..."
I think that would pretty much make it useless for Cuba, same as any US based insurance company...

Not to worry, you are not the first nor the last American to think that their USA based travel and medical insurance plan will cover them in Cuba because they were told by their agent it would. Ignorance is which a blessing until you need come to need it.
