Boston has a fantastic "First Night" celebration throughout the city. Check that out before you decide to go to a standard club NYE party. You can always do a bit of bar hopping as you wander around for First Night.2
The first thing you need to know about New Year's Eve in Boston is that there will be plenty of street action, art and live performances as part of First Night. All the outdoor things are free, and buying a First Night button gets you into almost all of the indoor events, first come first serve.Depending how much of this appeals to you, you may just want to have a fancy dinner somewhere, maybe around midnight when the F.N. entertainment ends.
Sorry I'm not in the know on the club scene, but someone else will help you with than. Just bear First Night in mind as part of your celebration.

First Night is great! However, a lot of stuff is outdoors so you are subject to the whims of the weather - you can have anything from mild 40 degree temps to sub-zero temps with a blizzard. It's new england - anything can happen. I don't have any recommendations for a club as its been years since I've done that scene for New Year's Eve but it is certainly warmer to be in a club than outdoors, if that's your thing.Oh FYI, if you decide to do First Night, usually open bottles are a big no-no in Boston so if you pop into a bar for hot toddie, drink up before venturing back outside. Lots of police around to enforce this on 12/31.
