Sri Lankan G/F causing problems!

My Sri Lankan G/F who has lived in Australia for years but dragged her feet on ever getting a AU passport has now run up with the problem of visas for traveling. We are about to travel around Asia for 6 months and she needs to apply for a visa for every country we visit, no VOE for her. We want to head into Thailand and from there go to Myanmar and then back to Thailand before heading to Laos and then back to Thailand.

The Thai visa application form B seems to only allow double entry for tourist visas and they want 90Aud for it. So this would still leave us another Thai visa to get when we go to Laos and then return to Thailand. I'm guessing we can get that in Laos. Or we could do a transit visa for 35Aud then get another visa when in Burma then do the same when in Laos.

Either way this is going to be a lot of hassle. Other than dumping the G/F and getting one with a decent passport, does anyone have any suggestions? I also thought about going from Thailand to Burma, then Burma straight to Laos before returning to Thailand, but I can't find any airlines that fly from Burma to Laos.

Do it in a different order. Fly into Vietnam -- plenty of flights from Kangaroo-land -- then go Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Thailand, home.

Thanks for the reply Malvolio but that doesn't fit with our plan. We are not visiting the other countries you mention and we need to arrive first in Thailand.

Realistically, the intercontinental airports for mainland SEA are BKK, Hanoi, and Saigon. Add to that, the only practical way to visit Burma is from Bangkok and back.

If you don't want to go through Vietnam, the only remaining solution is to visit Thailand three times. Your choices are

+ a single-entry visa then a double-entry visa
+ a double-entry visa then a single-entry visa (it may be easier to get the last visa in Laos)
+ an intercontinental flight from Laos, which would involve changing planes at BKK but not going through immigration -- a good solution except that the ticket is $250 AUD per person more expensive

Get a double entry Thai visa before you go. Laos visa on arrival is USD40 for Sri Lankans and USD30 for Aussies. Then have her get another Thai visa at the Thai consulate in Vientiane. For you (Aussie) do the same, or if you arrive back in Thailand visa-exempt it's 30 days by air or 15 days by land.

Ok thanks, I was thinking this is our best option, since the only multiple entry visa available seems to be $225

You may be able to avoid an odd Thai visa if you are flying into Bangkok and then heading straight to Burma without going through immigration ie just in transit. And then coming back from Burma, then if you're flying into Laos, same thing. And then only one visa at the end if you want to explore Thailand. Not sure if any of these options fit in with your plan.

No afraid that doesnt work as, yes we are planning to do a month in Thailand before heading to Burma, and then land crossing into Laos before coming back to Thailand to meet up with relie's.

Have you considered trading your G/F? If she's a new model with low mileage I'm sure you can get a great deal!
