Two week itinerary for north Laos
As the heading suggests, I have 2 weeks to semi-explore north Laos. The main focus is to be surrounded by nature and if possible, have a riverside bungalow with some nice mountains to look at. I'm into photography so the more spectacular, the better.Rough plan:
Luang Prabang stay 3 days with a late arrival time hence eating up most of day 1 so essentially 2 days in town.
Luang Namtha (stay 5 nights, overnight hike, some biking)
Luang Namtha---->Nong Khiaw (stay 4 nights, more hiking and biking)
Is it worth pushing onto Muang Ngoi? It seems that it's only an hour away.
Back to LPB (2 nights, including an afternoon departure)
Any must sees in LPB? I've read Kuang Si falls out of town is worth seeing. I've seen my fair share of wats so I'm not into spending too much time exploring them. Can the main town be seen in half a day?
How about Pak Ou caves? It seems to get mixed reviews.
Yes or no for the Mount Phousi sunrise or sunset.? Seems it gets very busy up there.
Cheers for any ideas.

I loved Muang Ngoi and spent 6 nights there - in my bungalow with hammock overlooking the river, with a nice garden in front of it (Nicksa's place - a bit off the main "road" - 50000 kip - very basic). Only 4 Hours electricity per day, very basic - very peaceful. There is a lot of trekking (also overnight) offered - I did a one day kajak, trekking, cave trip which was very nice.I have been to LNT too, did a one day trek.
For me, Muang Ngoi offered everything at once - lying in my hammock and being able to go hiking to the villages on my own and also having some laos village feeling.
No ATM!

I did not have any trouble finding accomodation - I think there was one day, when a few groups arrived, that a couple of guesthouses were fully booked - but there are quite a few places. But then I do not know what happens further on in the season. As far as the bike rental goes ... I have seen some decent bikes being used by tourists - the next time I see one I will stop and ask him/her ;-)
