Sights in Tasmania

Hello,

I'm about to travel in Tasmania in December. There are lots of places to see, and as usual, not enough time.
I'm wondering, which of the following cannot be missed, as I cannot fit all of them into my itinerary:
  • Ben Lomond
  • Hastings caves
  • Gordon River Dam
  • Walls of Jerusalem NP
  • Mount Field NP
  • Stanley
  • Low Head

Also, which wildlife cruise is more spectacular: from Port Arthur, or Bruny island?
Thanks for your help.

I would pass on Ben Lomond- just pile of dolerite screes

You will need transport to get to start of track to the Walls, and you will need to camp out!

Many good day walk at Mt Field!

Stanley is a pleasant little town.

If you go to Gordon River, then also drive down to Scotts Peak! day walk up to Mt Eliza?

Although it's a nice drive down through the Tamar Valley, Low Head itself could well be any rocky headland anywhere in Australia. Stanley and the North-West is definitely worth the visit however.

I haven't done the cruises but I've been told that the Port Arthur cruise is the better of the two though both are very good.

Don't miss the Walls of Jerusalem (last 2 slides).
Allow at least 3 days/2 nights.
Note that snow is possible any time of the year.

Cheers,
Peter

Are these your only options, or just the ones you are prepared to ditch? Cos I'd rather visit Freycinet and wineglass bay, Strahan and the Gordon River and Cradle Mountain ahead of any of these.
Of the ones on your list I;ve seen I'd skip Stanley, which is a big detour to see a small hill. Mt Field is plaasant, without being as spectacular as the sites I've listed, and the dam is a massive detour, which you have to mostly retrace to get back, to see how a large piece of concrete destroyed some of the best scenery in Tasmania.

Harry_Ramsden,

I listed my "plan B" options. Everything you said is already in my "plan A". Thanks for your comments.

Raki_Man, Drovers_Dog, KJL38, Peter_n_Margaret,

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I agree with the first poster about low head. Not that exciting really. I found Stanley beautiful but then again, I went there about 3 years ago, after 23 consecutive weekends of rain in Northern Tassie where I live. It was the first clear weekend so it looked great to me, and was almost blindingly green.
I would also think it a shame to leave out Cradle and the west coast (stanley).
