Uruguay and Buenos Aires Early December
Hi,Need a little help with itinerary suggestions for our upcoming trip to Buenos Aires and Uruguay. Excluding our travel days we have 11 days till fill up with activities and site seeing. We haven't planned anything yet (arriving Dec 5th) as this was a last minute trip. Thus far the plan is to fly into Buenos Aires and tour around for several days then head over to Uruguay for a few days then head back to BA to fly out.
We are both avid well versed travelers in our early 30's who would like to minimize long bus rides this trip and really get into the local scene in BA. A bit of beach time in Uruguay but not too much of a 'scene" would be great as we are in midst of moving, starting a business and planning a wedding so this trip is the getaway before the craziness begins at home.
Thanks!
Kacey

These days José Ignacio became popular for Brazilians to get married and have the party there, so maybe you get inspired on those beaches. It's very romantic and peacful as well. Other relaxing beach resorts are Colonia if you don't feel like travelling farther. Piriapolis, Punta del Este or La Pedrera are great options, especially the last one is trendy for people your age.2
Pluna flights to Montevideo are not expensive. I would say you can spend a couple of days in MVD. Also, there is no reason to return to Bs As - there is a direct AA flight from there to Miami. Just buy an open jaw flying into Buenos Aires and leaving from Montevideo, if anything it should be cheaper than buying a roundtrip to EZE.3
We are debating whether or not to rent a car or hire a driver from Montevideo to Punte del Este as there is a winery along the way that we would like to stop at. Do you know how much it would cost to hire a driver? Do we need a car in Punte del Este? Lastly area's would be good to stay in Punte del Este? We are going to be there approx Dec 12-15. We are looking for a bit of night life (restaurants and bars) but not clubs and beaches that are not too packed. Thanks so much!

As I'm sure you know, Punta del Este is pretty busy (especially that time of year!) and will feel a bit developed. it's not too far along on the bus to go to places like La Pedrera, Cabo Polonia or (my favourite) Punta Del Diablo.December is definitely quieter than January, though, and so those smaller beaches I mentioned won't be too busy. I was there in December last year and had no problems just rocking up and getting accommodation, for instance.
If you're interested, I've got photos of La Pedrera on my blog you can check out.

The easier way to Uruguay is the ferry (Buquebus) to Colonia -- quiet place to explore especially during the week -- about an hour crossing on the fast ferry, three hours if you choose to go on the slow oneBuenos aires is a fabulous city, you'll love exploring it, San Telmo, Puerto Madero, the ecological reserve, Bosques de Palermo -- and the weather should be fabulous on the whole

If you need private transportation from Montevideo to Punta del Este I can drive you cheaper than the transfer mentioned above. In case you don't want to rent a car in Montevideo, but in Punta del Este, there are two bus companies from Montevideo to Punta cot.com.uy and copsa.com.uy
