Itinerary Advice

Hi!

I need some help about my itinerary.

Right now, I have bought air tickets to and from Uyuni, and so my dates are fixed for the trip there. Just wonder how shall I make better use of the remaining days.

My initial plan is following -

Day 1 - arrive La Paz by air, do nothing and acclimatise
Day 2 - La Paz
Day 3-6 Uyuni and REA, and flying back to La Paz early on Day 6

Day 6 - 8 - what should I do?

Any advice?

There are several different miradors that offer a great view of the city. You could take a day tour to Tiwanaku if you are interested in Pre Colombian ruins. Or a half day trip to Valle de la Luna for some nice scenery. Coroico is a nice town in the mountains only a few hours drive from La Paz.

Is it easy to go to Tiwanaku if not joining a tour? And how's the state of restoration and preservation there?

2 recommendations for La Paz:

  • Take the bike ride down the 'Most Dangerous Road in the World'
  • Go to the Cholita wrestling show (similar to Lucha Libre wrestling in Mexico)

Good suggestions from post #3

Yes it's easy to go there via bus. Several buses leave from the cemetery. If you can't find a direct bus you can get a bus to deseraguardo and tell the driver you want to get off at the intersection for Tiwanaku.

The ruins are not as visually impressive as many sites in Peru, but they are quite historically interesting.

Without question, go to Copacabana (Lake Titicaca) for a few days. It is so relaxing there. You can head over to Isla del Sol for the day if you want.....and just hang out in Copa the rest of the time. It's safe and you can walk along the lake in either direction. Nice little restaurants as well as local mom and pop places to eat. You won't regret it. It's my favorite place in the world.

Thanks hazzdawg. Lots of fun to be had in La Paz if you know where to look, as I'm sure you know! Agree with #5 - Isla del Sol is a great day out if you have time to go all that way.

I would go to Copacabana and Isla del Sol as well...really beautiful and only 3ish hours from La Paz.

Just remember to take suncream if you go walking on Isla del Sol. Despite it being chilly, I ended up with a very red neck that day!
