Rental car to drive to Bled

Hey All,

We will be in December in Slovenua and consider to visit Bled using a rental car.

Any advice on this? How will the roads be to drive there and down there in winter? Will the roads be cleared of snow? Are snow chains needed or required? 4wd needed?

Many thanks!!
Best regards,
Ed

Slovenia is super easy to drive in, and yes, of course, the road from Ljubljana is cleared. (It's freeway about 90% of the way). No chains or 4wd required on that trip...or anywhere else in the country, for that matter.

Hi!

Thats right, all the major roads are kept clear so Ljubljana to Bled etc is not a problem.
All rental cars come with snow tyres fitted and you are also required to carry snow chains in the boot.

Driving is only an issue on the smaller secondary roads that are quite narrow and can become hazardous in winter, but if you stick to the main roads most of the time, driving is easy.

See http://www.sloveniaforyou.com/CarRental.htm
they give a little insight into driving.
Have a nice trip Ed.

Many thanks for your help!

We are considering also to visit Bovec and Kranjaska Gora? I assume this would be more difficult to visit in winter?

Would you recommend to drive there?

Cheers,
Ed

Hi again Ed,

Well, if you're thinking about the Vrsic Pass, then that is usually closed in winter, but you can still get to Bovec from Kranjska Gora via the Predel Pass. Barring a massive snowfall, they do a good job at clearing the roads at all times.
