my first memory of the never-never was when i went through the NT with Hannaford Coaches, mum, dad and sis, on a 30 day camping adventure in the winter of '75.
Uluru was a different place, the Alice too. Darwin and her surrounds were a wreck from Tracey and, with no or little bitumen in them days, and two coach drivers that had been to the centre a few times already, our 45 seat coachload of happy novocastrian campers had the experience of a lifetime.
I blame that little adventure on my addiction to travel !!

I did it with a friend on an el cheapo bring your own tent tour in Spring '74. It was a very wet year. We got bogged, ended up allowed to overnight in Woomera, and fell in love with the Centre, so much so that my friend moved there two years later.

Ah! And probably both of you were travelling in a non air conditioned front engined Leyland, an unsealed Stuart highway, Spud Murphy at Pimba, Ebenezer Downs etc etc. Good times, really.
