The Budapest-Sarajevo direct train connection will be cancelled after Dec 9

Dear Everyone,

The Budapest-Sarajevo direct train connection will be cancelled after December 9.

I did not get answer from the Hungarian rail company, if it will run ever again.

I think after Dec 9, the easiest way will be going through Belgrade.

@anderszorgo, Are you sure? More companies, a.o. NS in the Netherlands start a new schedule the same 9th of December.

I am sure about it, I called the Hungarian rail company's information service, and I saw it at the website of the company.

Really sad news...

Yep I already announced that. Serbian Railway is cutting nearly every international train, includin "andric" Budapest-Belgrade, Croatia an BiH too.

I can also confirm the cancellation of the mentioned train. Also, I can confirm the post by #3, although the Serbian railways will not cut all the international trains, but they will reduce their frequency. So, Belgrade will remain connected with Zagreb (Croatia) and Budapest (Hungary) by direct rail connection, although with very low frequency. Direct train connection between Belgrade and Sarajevo will also be terminated.

Honestly, local rail infrastructure is not competitive compared to bus and plane links, so the trains are travelling half empty or with even less passengers although their prices are very competitive. They have become too slow and the companies that run them generate only losses. Let's hope that with improving infrastructure, the passengers will return to trains and that the direct services that have been lost will be reinstituted.
