Its a pity as most Vietnamese are lovely people, but never do business with them. I have a friend who is being taken to court for unfair dismissal, all this after my friend paid this guy double what he could get anywhere else. I dont trust Vietnamese one bit in business, even my VN friends say the same thing.46
Hey Maureeen,You seem like a very decent, kind and fair person. I am travelling to vietnam for the first time in December with my 2 teenage children. You mentioned you stay in Hue, we are passing through, any tips of what to see. I will be in the country for 23 days and I am travelling from bottom to top so time is precious. I read alot of the forums on here but because of the condensending way that some people answer, I am off put with asking for advice. You however, seem like an open honest person and would love to get some advice from you.

For me, I wanted to see "everything" but of course I couldn't. I travelled south to north - Sai Gon, Mekong Delta, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Hue, Hanoi, Sapa & Bac Ha and Ha Long Bay - all the usual.Didn't see any tourist sites in Sai Gon, chose the "sights" I was interested in for Da Lat - Hằng Nga, Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, Da Lat Cathedral - Nha Tho Chanh Toa and Đà Lạt Railway Station. Loved Hoi An, walked the streets, strolled around and was surprised at finding some of the photos I took were of "famous" sites. The one site I did seek out was the Japanese Bridge. No sites in Hue, just enjoyed the streets and sampling the cuisine, Ha Noi - walked around Hồ Hoàn Kiếm, crossed Thê Húc and saw the water puppets.
Trekking in Sapa to minority villages was wonderful, Bac Ha market really good, loved the colourful costumes, enjoyed the cruise on Ha Long Bay.
I like historical stuff, buildings (very old ones), architecture, markets, love looking at hand made crafts, eating local foods, sitting drinking coffee. Mausoleums dedicated to dead people don't interest me and I would only look at university buildings if they were very old and had interesting history and architecture. As often happens, whilst I start out with a "list" of things to see and do, it always never happens that way - I find I enjoy just walking around going up this street, or that place over there and I spend most of my time sitting somewhere doing nothing just watching what goes on around me.
And yes, I liked travelling by motor bike, wouldn't hire one, but rode on the backs of bikes.

Very interesting Captain Courageous, I am going the from South to North too, and being my first time, have been reading blogs and travell guides. I have a similar itinery with same sort of interests and it will be a challenge to stick to that. But reading what you have written makes me think I have a fairly good plan. Like you too, I want to see as much as I can in the time that I am there but 23 days does not seem to be long enough. Thankyou for sharing.Edited by: Gdday
