Disappointed with Phat Gecko in Mondulkiri, Cambodia

Just an FYI

Took a 2 day/1 night trekking tour with them a few days ago. The majority of the "trekking" time was spent going through farms and grassland. Not the forest as expected. There was also 2 1/2 hours of waiting for an elephant that never showed. On the second day breakfast consisted of a small cup of instant noodles. Lunch was a few pieces of bread and a jar of jam. When bringing up these issues with the owner I got nothing but excuses. Felt the whole thing was little more than a waste of time and money.

Coming soon: a new company 'recommended' by this poster that is somehow better than Phat Gecko.

''There was also 2 1/2 hours of waiting for an elephant that never showed.''
Them damned elephants, so unreliable.

I got the impression that most of the trips there were over priced and not worth it so did not bother. Went on a village trip around on a motorbike it was OK but not really worth it. A lot of the forest seems to have been cut down around there.

You think elephants are bad, try hippos. Not only did they usually show up late, they are also rude and disorganized.

Plus, rhinos steal.

Rhinos can be really inconsiderate as well. And they tend to be very sarcastic.

Only those that think of visitors as cash cows/hippos.
The others are rude and surly.
And don't get me started on them giraffes. Always looking down at you.

Unicorns are never around when you need them.

Cheetahs never prosper. Bigger cats are just lion there.

This was just an honest review for people thinking of taking a tour with them. Wish I could recommend another company. Think the area may have a lot to offer but you need to spend more time and money and get at least a few hours away from Son Monorom.

I was not that impressed with Sen Monoron either, as for elephant, one village we went to there was one standing around, when asked what it was doing they said it was waiting for some tourists who were coming later, maybe they were late, haha. I don't agree with riding elephants, heard too many horror stories to encourage this activity.

Hi everybody. I m very surprised with what you all say. I think that they told you before that you ll have to wait at the river cause te elephant are RESTING...i made a tour with them and everything was perfectly explained...and i m sure that youre elephant came...don t be lying like that!!! I m sure you didn t finish the day by foot without your elephant!!! Now i have to say that if you like better with no waiting, you can spend the double of your money in the elephant camps in thai were the elephants are so sad. Chained with one meter the hole day in the sun with bo food and nowater...up to you you can support this or help the communities in mondulkiri....id rather wait 2 or 3 hours in this place to have happt elephant..no hooks etc....and also i have to ad that the owners ofthe gecko bar are very friendly and honest people...thanks and open mind when you tracel guys!!!
