Miami is the most culturally diverse city besides New York City that I have been to.
Antibellum south with hanging moss and evergreen oak trees accent the old buildings.
Good blues music through the south, google "the blues trail".
Try San Augustine Florida, oldest city in USA (I think).
Austin/San Antonio TX are interesting San Antonio has some of the oldest water canals in USA laid out by monks in either 16-17 centuries using goose tracheas filled with water to establish the fall line of water, and they still work.
Santa Fe NM is another very old city.
New Orleans has it all.
Some of the most amazing vistas can be seen in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah with plenty of world class parks to visit.
California from The Mexican border past San Francisco offers some of the most awe inspiring ocean views and giant trees in USA.
Then you also have the continental divide from Canada down to Mexico (Rocky Mountains) if you cannot find something to photograph there it is time for you to leave.
If you choose to go north instead of south, and west well that is another year's travelling.
You can google almost everything I have listed to help you refine your trip. I'm too lazy to do it for you.

Lucas, this branch gets trolled a lot. A typical trolling style is for a newcomer to post an open-ended travel question along with a highly unrealistic financial plan. You started by telling us that you want to come here for six months, with $500 and no car. Now you've been altering your plans. It's difficult to know how seriously to take you. I suggest that you obtain a guidebook to the United States, and read it and the FAQ here, and devise a realistic general plan. At that point, people here can be quite helpful.

Willy truly said it.You hav eto kno whow much money you will have. travel incentral and south america is much cheaper.. and its no ones fault. BUT coming to US with expectations of doing same will only put you in a bad situation.
You can try globalfreeloaders and couchsurfing.. but you must anticipate not finding free places.I would suggest one part of the uS. Like fly to Seattle and work down the west coast via bus and train. Thus you see beauty and then ge tto LA and San Fran. Or pick another limited plan.. Seattle to Montana down to Arizona then back to LA and SF. Then go home with ideas of how the US works and how to plan the next trip.LA is very Spanish speaking as is Miami, but dont expect that everywhere.. or middle of US.

Thanks a lot guys, I`ve already changed my plans a lot by putting this through a more realistic view. For sure I will be using a lot of couchsurfing and globalfreeloaders for this, and sure, I`ve reevaluated my budget, since I first posted here actually hshs, never been to US and received some bad advices on budget from other people that didnt know what they were talking about... Once again I`m not planing to spend six months, it will depend on what travel route I`ll choose; thinking something around two months, since I`ll be spending sometime in LA first. I`m leaning to follow a route through the south, from LA to Miami, passing by New Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico; also very interrested in touring around the west, maybe Seattle all the way to LA... I think I can pull around $5000...$7000 for around two months there, what do you thing? - I`m definitely hoping to save the most money I can though - What are the best/cheap/effective ways to travel in US? Train? Touring agencies? Bus? Hitchhiking? Again - thanks a lot!
