URGENT: Denied b2 visa extension for Ulpan studies

Hi!

I'm in Israel studying at a Ulpan. I got a b2 tourist visa valid för 90 days at arrival (I'm from Sweden). I went to extend the visa (I wanted 3 more months of b2 visa) since it's expiring in few days, but it was denied. They said they don't extend visas for Ulpan studies, only for university studies. I had all the papers from the Ulpan, also papers from the Swedish government (CSN) saying that we got money for this studies.

Does anyone has any experience from a similar situation? If you red at the webpage of Ministry of foreign affairs it seams as if you could get an extension aslo for Ulpan studies, but... that didn't happen. http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/About+the+Ministry/Consular_affairs/Visas.htm#B/2

(I planned a tripp to Jordan, but since there is a war going on right now, I'm not sure it's such a good idea to go)

Please tell me (FAST) if you have any experience from visa applications and if you got it for ulpan studies!
/Yaël

just go to Jordan - it's safe. And then you will get 90 more days once you return to Israel, won't you?

The link you provided says it is issued for Ulpan, it does NOT say it is EXTENDED for Ulpan. You should have tried to get a student VISA. Jordan has had some disturbances as people are protesting the rise of gas prices and now everything in general. but if you go onto Trip Advisor, the Jordanian forum, I am sure they can give advice as to where you can go that is safe.

Update: So we got an extension, we went back a second time, showing the print from http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/About+the+Ministry/Consular_affairs/Visas.htm#B/2

They said that they usually doesn't extend tourist visa for ulpan, but I think they felt stupid when we showed what the webpage said. We also showed paper from the swedish government saying we got student loans so that we could support our selves, that was important as well.

Any how we got the visa and I advise anyone in the same situation to be persistent, reed your rights very carefully and if nothing helps, demand to speek to the boss.

Good luck!

I think you got lucky. BTW as a tourist you have NO rights to stay in a country. You are a guest of that country, and like any guest the host has a right to kick you out whenever they want,

I'm sure the fact that he pounded his fist on the table and insisted on speeking to the boss got the right result.

In any case I'm glad it worked out for you. :)
