Travel options to Vic Falls
We want to visit Vic Falls in February. We'll probably be coming from either Nairobi or Rwanda. Can anyone suggest the best means of getting there? Is it a good idea to use a booking agent? Is there a reasonable way to get there by train? What airlines fly into Livingstone and does it the cost less to come into Livingstone from Nairobi or Johannesberg? Any other suggestions about reasonably priced places to stay at Vic Falls and activities?Really appreciate any info anyone can provide. Thanks

I don't think there are any flights into Livingstone (or Victoria Falls airport on the Zim side) from East Africa. You are most likely going to have to go via Johannesburg. I believe Rwandair flys from Kigali, from Nairobi the main options will be Kenya Airways or South African.Another alternative would be to fly to Lusaka and then fly (Proflight) to Livingstone, or get a bus (6 hours).

There aren't any trains on that route and if there were, it would take forever. Dar-es-Salaam to the Zambian border is a three-day ride alone.Flying via Joburg is the best. Look up flight times and prices on www.kayak.com or similar.
Personally I prefer the Zimbabwean side, though if you have time, you could do both.
You can find plenty of accommodation online, Taxis are safe and reliable to get you around. On the Zim side the NP and the falls are right by town. If you can afford it the Victoria Falls Hotel is my favourite hotel in the area. Ilala Lodge 2nd choice of the top end central hotels. VIc Falls backpackers is a quiet, decent budget option a five-minute taxi ride from the falls.

Fly to joburg, it is usually a bit cheaper to fly to Livingstone than to Vic falls. But the falls are closer to town in Vic falls than Livingstone, and there more to do in walking distance in Vic falls, than there is in Livingstone. Smaller town feel, and better atmosphere. Shoestrings backpackers in Vic falls or Vic falls rest camp. Both have a pool and a bar/ restaurant. You will meet loads of travellers at shoestrings.
