Shimla or golden triangle to avoid monsoon in early JuneHi I got an invite to attend a wedding in Kochi, India June 9 2013, and monsoon just started.
If I go (May 30-June 12, tentative), I will spend 2 days for the wedding, then 8 days in north around golden triangle (agra, delhi, Jaipur). I am not sure if I should go further north to avoid the rain?
In early June there are these two festival north of New Delhi:
Sindhu Darshan Festival (Leh, Ladakh)
Shimla Summer Festival (Shimla)
Never been to India before.
Any suggestion is appreciated!

In the period of June1 to June 12 in north India (Agra, Delhi, Jaipur) you do not have to worry too much about the monsoon rains which will most likely start in the last week of June.
But in north India in that period you have to worry about the heat and extreme temperatures of 40 degrees plus during the day with the temperatures not dropping much below 30 degrees even at night.
But at that time of the year the higher elevation places like Shimla, Leh, Ladakh are very pleasant with maximum daytime tempetature around 30 degrees or less.
Since this is your first visit to India you should see Delhi and Agra for sure and I would suggest that after attending the wedding in Kochi take a flight to Delhi and see Delhi and Agra (for the Taj Mahal) and then after couple of days head up further north to places like Shimla, Leh, Ladakh to escape the extreme heat of the north Indian plains.
In early June you may see some early monsoon activity but generally proper monsoons in full force arrive in north India around 4th week of june and most likely you will be able to avoid the rains both in Shimla and Golden triangle in early June.
Also you are short of time and I think you can skip the Jaipur part of the Golden Triangle.
