In need of ideas for my trip to Indo!My boyfriend and I are flying into Denpasar in February for 3 weeks. We are going to avoid spending too much time in the touristy areas of Indonesia.
So far we've looked at catching a boat to Nusa Lembongan to spend a few days surfing and diving.
We also want to travel to Lombok to catch a fast boat to Gili Islands for a few nights.
Finally, we're going to fly from Bali to Timor and catch a fast boat to Rote Island.
We definitely love surfing and will try to get as much surfing in as possible,
What are some other sights we can visit?
Eg. Good diving spots in Nusa, hiking spots, things to do in Timor, Rote Island, Gili, Bali etc.
I just want a smorgasbord of ideas so we can start to build our holiday!

3Its true, mainland Lombok have a lot more to offer but I still think you should visit one of the Gili's and spend a couple of night there just so you can say you've been there. The surf and diving is not that bad in Gili Trawangan.
You can cross from Bali to Gili Trawangan by a 2 hour speed boat organized by http://www.peramatour.com . They also organize trips to the komodo islands by air or boat. I've been on both, boat is better!! That is if time is on your side.
I dont know your diving experience but Tulamben Bay and Amed is great for all level. The fishermen village in Amed is so great and very quiet. In tulamben you can go for the ship wreck dive.
Check out these guys also http://www.tuamigoenbali.com I always recommend them till this day since last year to all my friends. Really easy going and helpful guys.

4You will get much more out of your trip if you minimize time spent on the Gili and head to south Lombok instead for surfing. Nothing wrong with the Gili, but it is very touristy on Gili Trawangan and you said you want to get away from the tourist traps, and the surfing is pretty ordinary, whereas south Lombok has world class surf breaks on beautiful white sand bays. Various breaks available depending on your skill level.
Base yourself in Kuta Lombok and go to the various surf beaches from there. Some you hire a small boat to take you out to the break. Most of the spots are reachable by motorbike. Hire bikes in that area usually have the option of a rack for your board.
