Bergen in a Day (want to see the fjords!)
I am planning a trip for June/July of 2013 that will end in Bergen, Norway. We basically will have one full day there (with a day of travel before and after). From what I can tell online, there isn't a whole lot to do in the city of Bergen itself. Besides, all we are really interested in doing is seeing the fjords. So,.....1. Do we need to budget more time for the city of Bergen? We don't see much that seems appealing from a tourist standpoint. Am I right in wanting to use it only as a via point to see the fjords?
2. Since we are really only interested in seeing the fjords, and we only have a day, and I am interested in doing the Norway in a Nutshell tour (http://www.norwaynutshell.com/en/explore-the-fjords/norway-in-a-nutshell//#prices). Does anybody have any experience with these tours and/or other tours to get a look at some of the fjords in a day?
Really the only reason we are choosing Bergen instead of Oslo is because the Norway in a Nutshell tour is cheaper out of Bergen. However, I am willing to be talked into Oslo if anybody knows of a great way to see the fjords (in 1 day) out of Oslo! I really am not interested in renting a car to see the fjords.
Also, I know that, if I wanted to, I could spend much, much longer seeing the fjords. My time limit is one day, or two MAX.
Thanks for your time and input!

I've not got round to Bergen yet. Didn't like Oslo but am thinking of flying back there and getting the train to Bergen with aparently great views, also train to Flam. Then i'm not sure! Planning on being in Sweden on Midsummer weekend so not sure how much time i'll have but i'd say hiking would be a fairly obvious "to do" which i'm gonna try and factor in some time. Boat trip/cruise. Scandinavia for me tends to be a laid back affair and not having a lot to do in a town is quite nice... wind down on long strolls/mountain biking2

When tourists talk of "the fjords", they generally mean the mountainous fjords of western Norway, which is not practically visitable from Oslo in a day.As well as the train tour, there are also express excursion boats out of Bergen which offer an alternative day trip to see the spectacular fjord scenery, assuming the weather does not prevent you from seeing anything at all.
