Malaysia accomodation
HiI'm going to Malaysia for the first time.
I've been looking at accomodation and being a single girl security is at the top of my list.
I've seen Tune hotels in many of the places I'm going.
KL, Penang, KK and Kuching are these hotels any good.
My budget is about 40 Malaysian R per night but I want to avoid dorms.

Tune Hotels are good, basic budget hotels. They are cheap because the rooms are small, and some are away from the action a bit. They charge extra for stuff like towels and aircon (but aircon is on a timer so if you buy 12 hours of aircon you choose which 12 hours it will be, it doesn't have to be consecutive). KL is in a good location, near the monorail and the LRT and opposite a shopping centre with a good food court. Penang is not in the heritage area of Georgetown but on a bus route to Batu Ferringhi and the Airport. Kuching is a pleasant 10 minute walk along the river to the centre of town. KK is in the middle of nowhere, in the biggest shopping mall in Borneo. If you book ahead they are extremely good value for money; I've managed to get rooms as low as RM10 for two (but haven't been believed on this forum!). As for security, they seem secure to me. If you're worried about security, avoid the Bukit Bintang area of KL, as gangs can target foreigners to steal their passports - I speak from the experience of a family member.3
I've stayed in a few different Tune Hotels, and they were fine. Seemed perfectly safe, and I've never had a problem. Like Neil said though, can be away from the action.Stayed in Borneo Gaya Lodge in KK - that was fine too. Avoid the Anderson Clock Tower part of KK though, even walking up the hill during the day too to the observation tower on your own or in a couple.

I've stayed in Tune Hotels and they are pretty safe and much cleaner than most budget hotels anywhere in the country. And the bath is attached.But it might be difficult to get a room at RM40 (unless you forgo the towels, aircond, wifi and tv)
In downtown KL, the location is relatively good since it is near to the monorails. When going solo, I prefer staying in the Tune myself.

Agree with above.Tune are safe,clean,basic hotels.
Very small rooms and if you book in advance,very cheap.Apart from the one at the LCCT near KL.
The biggest 'downside' for me is not the size of the room (I only need to sleep there) but the lack of contact with other travellers..they are not 'social' like a hostel.

Met a British couple that planned one month honeymoon through Malaysia just staying at Tune hotels. Their average price per night booked six months in advance was around 20MR. Sounded really romantic to me.
