The Holland FestivalHas anyone ever been to the Holland Festival in Amsterdam? I came across it online and was surprised that such a big cultural event took place in Amsterdam. I feel as though the region has such negative associations with drugs and sex that we often overlook the other things that take place here. I was just wondering what the festival and the art found within it was like, and whether or not the event offered a positive experience.

It's a series of events, and it's been going for more than fifty years. Mostly rather highbrow culture (orchestras rather than bands), you pick the events you want to see, or you can buy a card that will let you go to multiple events. It's good.
I feel that says more about you, than about Amsterdam.

8Note for the Van Gogh connaisseurs/addicts: the museum has been temporarily closed
Part of the 'stuff' is in the Hermitage now. (connaisseurs will know I mean the Hermitage Amsterdam).
And there's a significant Van Gogh (p)art in the http://www.kmm.nl situated in the NP Hoge Veluwe.

A big cultural festival in a capital city: who would have thought? I'm sorry, but that's just hilarious....And I completely agree: this says more about you than Amsterdam. http://www.iamsterdam.com/en-GB/experience/what-to-do/festivals
