Train from Huancayo to Huancavelica

Hey everybody,

i'm leaving for Peru this friday and i'm wondering if anyone knows if the train between Huancayo and Huancavelica is active again.
The information in the lonely planet is a little bit old, they say (in 2010) that the train is closed for some time but i don't seem to find on the internet or in a recent topic on this forum, if it is still on a break or not.
Does anyone knows more about this?

Thanks a lott!!

Gudrun

The Tren Macho started operating again almost a year ago.

Hi Gurdun,

I just read your post. I just arrived back from Huancavelica in Huancayo. Its true that the train is in operation again. But please consider the following: We left Huancavelica at 06:30 but did not arrived in Huancay as foreseen at around 11:30.

Because of lanslides (rainy season) the tracks were impassable. We had to move all the mud by ourselves and finally only by Caterpillar-Machinery.

Finally we arrived delayed at 19:00. As the kitchen run out off food and berverage I suggest if you still plan to go in the rainy season take enough food and water.

Saludos
