How would you allocate $2000 for 2 1/2 months in Costa Rica?

RT tickets and 13 days of hostel are paid for in San Jose. How would you allocate $2000 for a 2 1/2 months stay in CR? I will not be spending any money on souvenirs or restaurants (fine w/ street food/cooking), but I do want to travel to other nearby countries, surf, zipline. This will be my first solo trip abroad so I'm not sure what to expect. Any help would be appreciated!

VERY CAREFULLY. EAT AT LITTLE MOM AND POP CAF´ES IN PAVED ALLEYWAYS opps. sorry for the caps.:(

Kabob shops are cheap . And have other good dishes too.
Pack a plastic throw away picknic plate. Make sandwiches from super mkt gear.

I saw a yank girl in Europe, sitting on the curb at a bus station. She was making a peanut butter sandwich. :( American brand of coarse. heee heee

I got to Quepos,Costa Rica, to change busses for Panamá. In the morning on way to bus, I said,"Self? I don't need a bus. I need an apartment!"

When in Quepos, I emailed an Anthropolgist friend. I said I was getting tired of beans and rice."

He answered,"You go ahead and eat 'em. Its been the staple for most indigeonous people for many civilizations."

pura vida!
have fun / not schedules.

THERE AIN'T NO LUGGAGE RACKS ON A HURSE !

My first reaction is I hope you're spending 13 days in San Jose for a good reason, otherwise get the hell out of there - Costa Rica is about the rest of the country not the capital. Head to Nicaragua - your money will go further and it's a great country. Eat in Sodas (local eateries, I hope you like rice and beans). Find some out of the way beach and avoid the overly touristy ones, it'll be cheaper and much nicer. Consider splurging to go to Tortuguero and Osa, however.

Enjoy.

as toad mentioned i would definitely get out of the city and explore some more of costa rica. the rest of the country is just to beautiful to pass up, so get out of the city if you can. sodas are very typical in costa rica and are a good cheap eat. in my experience in costa rica i loved the mountain areas san isrido and san ganadeo (forgive spelling) were probably my favourite, but I've never been a big fan of beaches. but the wildlife and scenery in that area were beautiful. buses everywhere in the country are pretty cheep so you shouldn't have any problem taking in other areas. and i think you should have no problem stretching your money over 2 and a half weeks.

enjoy your adventure.

Can you cancel that hostel and get your money back (unless you are in SJ for a reason?)

$2000 is about $200 per week, so do a check at the end of each week to make sure you're not going too much over budget. If you are, look at how you can live more cheaply.
