if you were to find out that when your wife opened up the flour... how upset would you be?

Very - I don't believe in marriage.

From what I've heard there are usually eggs in the flour but letting it sit forever will let them hatch. If it's flour I know I won't use as much, I keep it in the freezer. No hatchy hatchy there.

I threw out my old flour and bought fresh. Put a little bit into the (very well washed out) tub I store in the cupboard, and the rest is in the freezer.

Scrubb, I'd try not to think about it and ask her to please sift the flour in the future.

I have got into the habit of freezing the flour and then sifting it before it goes in anything ever since I discovered a 2 cm long insect pupa in the flour. I only found the thing because I was stirring together a flour/baking powder/salt mix with my hand and discovered a lump. Every now and then the sifting turns up little brown beetles.

Incidentally, a complaint to the flour producer yielded four 2 kg packs of flour and huge box of chocolates.
