Midweek nightlife in Budapest

I'm sure this is probably a dumb question but seeing as most of my holiday time is spent up a mountain or in the middle of a desert I don't mind asking it!! My friend is in Budapest from Sun 2nd to Fri 7th Dec and has asked me to join him.My main reason would be for the nightlife, would there be anywhere busy from sun to thur night? If I'm gonna go I actually might go myself the Fri beforehand and enjoy Fri and Sat night or would there be places just as busy and fun during the week? I'm 34 if that makes any difference...not interested in partying with 18, 19 year old college students!!

For some reason, InYourPocket don't have a Budapest guide so the best up-to-date, local guide is probably...

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the link, I also read somewhere that District 5 in Pest was a good base for nightlife and sightseeing so I have booked a hotel with the below address:

Zoltán utca 13, 05. Belváros - Lipótváros
Budapest, 1054
Hungary

Is this a good area to be in for nightlife and daytime sightseeing? I can still change my accommodation as it is only provisionally booked!!

I'm sure you'll be fine although it's probably better for sight-seeing than nightlife...the scene in BP moves around a lot between 5, 6, 7 and 8 so maybe one of our resident BP 'experts' can advise further...

Thanks Jack, I 've been told the public transport is very good so I'm not too worried although there has been a mix-up with my booking!! The people I booked it with have apartments at a few different addresses.
I thought when I was booking my apartment the address was.....'Zoltán utca 13, 05. Belváros - Lipótváros Budapest, 1054'....but I've noticed in my booking confirmation it gives the address....'1 Apartment - VIII. Baross Utca 81'.....I've emailed them about this but havn't had a reply yet!

Do you know if this second address is fairly central?

To be honest, I don't know...it really depends which end of Baross Utca that you're domiciled on...but I don't know the city well enough to pronounce on individual building numbers...obviously, the closer to Kalvin Ter, the better...

But I think we can probably guess who your landlord is...))

Sorry Jack, I should have said that I booked through booking.com with 'King's Court City Apartments'! The website is very badly done though,it gives the proximity to various landmarks but only on the home page and as King's Court City Apartments seemingly have several apartments dotted around the city it is impossible to know which ones the landmark proximity details refer to!! The only thing I can conclude is that the second address is in District 8 and not district 5 as I had thought??

Your hotel on Baross Utca 81 is fairly central - in that you can walk to tourist places, bars, restaurants and the like. Public transport is cheap, and efficient so if you have a good deal on a hotel then don't worry too much about it. However, you are not bang in the centre of things and if that's important you may want to reconsider your booking.

Just put the address into google maps and you will see where you are. As a point of reference, it will take you 15-20 minutes at a normal walking pace to reach Kalvin Ter which is straight down Baross Utca. There are plenty of buses - and they run all night - that will do it in 5.

Look on the State Department website (www.state.gov) as it tells you about some bars/restaurants that are extremely dodgy.

Also beware of bogus policemen wanting to "check your money" - they do not have the right to do this.
