We took the Bari to Dubrovnik overnight ferry in October. We bought our tickets in Rome and were told "this is your ticket". However, that was not true. We learned along with the other western travelers who arrived at the port expecting to get on with a "ticket/reservation" that we needed to exchange the reservation for actual tickets. So here's what you do. Arrive at the port with enough time to take the shuttle (free) to the ticket offices, approximately a 10 minute ride. Only one person needs to take the passports for all the travelers on your reservation to get the tickets. Since it is a 10-12 passenger van there is no room for luggage. Leave your family/friends at the port, take the passports and get the tickets. Catch the van back and board the ferry. The entire process took approx 1 hour since the van is so small and everyone is making this trek and the ticket line is long. Also if you are arriving by train to Bari, the bus you need is 20/. The (/) is very important do not take bus 20. The bus station is in front of the train station. You can buy your ticket at the ticket office in the same parking lot where the buses are arriving. The ride is approx 20 minutes to the port.
Happy sailing.
