Like I said, there are various opinions, depending on which guidebook you read. As you know, I just think sand is sand, and height is not that important.

I know very well what you said :) but you know I like facts, not just some vague information. Either I write and attempt to give the correct info, or do I not write about what I'm not sure it is right :)

P.S. and one more thing - you mislead me now you too LOL,
and I saw it, not just read in the guidebook and I talked about that La grande duna is in Erg Chigaga and not in Erg Chebbi, that's what I was referring mostly, not so much at the height :)

But one person's "correct information" often is just his/her opinion, not necessarily true.

LOL

I really appreciate you guys' kindness for help, trying your best to give the correct info to other travelers. As far as the height of the sand dunes, shall we just stop here? I'm very happy with the highest point of my life so far, 5190 m. I've no interest, for now, in climbing some higher sand dunes :) I think the whole travel experience is kinda subjective. As long as we enjoy it, we get something out of it, the distance or height doesn't matter that much right?

Let me backtrack. Do you think it's possible that I can keep Chefchaouen in my trip someway? I saw a lot of pictures and travel blogs about it, it's really beautiful!

Thank you again!

Stephanie, in that case you have to skip the desert I suppose, you have no time for to see all you write in your itinerary. Take a train from Marrakech to Fes, explore the area there, then take the bus to Chefchouen and then to Casablanca. And have warm clothes with you, not only to Chefchaoun of course.

Which point 5190 you was climbing on?
Now excuse my last comment, but I do not actually talked so much about the height of la grande dune as about the place where it is located, it is quite significantly, but ...

I see, khamlia. Yes, I do feel Chefchouen is too far to fit in this trip...Hopefully I could go back someday.

I didn't CLIMB to that height tho :) I passed by Nagen La Pass on my way to Namtso Lake in Tibet. It was 5190 :)

stephanie - I would recommend spending an extra day in Fez and taking a day trip out to the Roman ruins in Volubilis. It's an impressive sight and really gets you thinking about how far the Roman empire actually spread - something you're not expecting to see in Morocco at all! Have a great trip.

Khamilia,

with regards to comments about accuracy in information and locations, I agree that it is important, and I appreciate any corrections on where I have been misinformed. We collected a postcard from Merzouga with a picture of our desert camp on the was labeled 'Grande Dune', it is so easy to get misled with information!

Stephanie, have a fantastic trip, Chefchaouen is amazing but you will appreciate having time to relax or time if things don't go to plan.

Morocco and beyond...

Tanja,
I am glad that we understand each other now. Your blog was interesting but suddenly when I read it so I did not know where you were because you wrote about La grande dune and Erg Chebbi and I could not get it together. Therefore, I mentioned it, but sensed not that it will be so much writings about, which became most because of my bad expression there I mixed together the name and height etc. LOL

Hi guys,

I'm so stubborn!!! I just can't get over Chef!!! I finally figured out a way to fit it into my itinerary!

12/17/2012 Arrival in PM
12/18/2012 Tour Casa AM, take CTM from Casa to Chef (13:15 - 18:40)
12/19/2012 Tour Chef AM, take CTM to Fez PM (bus leaves every other hour)
12/20/2012 Fez
12/21/2012 Desert tour
12/22/2012 Desert tour
12/23/2012 Desert tour to Marrakech
12/24/2012 Marrakech
12/25/2012 Departure

I know it's tight, especially the first couple of days. But I think it's doable, right? I do have some concerns:
1 - Is half day or 2/3 day enough to tour Chef?
2 - Is the CTM bus reliable as far as the schedule?
Do I need get the ticket in advance?
Is it safe to take the CTM at night, say 18:00 ~ 22:00?
3 - How difficult will it be to find desert tour group from Fez to Marrakech after I get there? What about the price?
4 - Do I need to book all the accommodation in advance? Or it varies by city?

Thanks a lot!

It will BE tight, but you know that. You have to come back one other time again, have more time and explore all longer and better. :)
Anyway I keep my fingers for you or how it is to say in English, cross fingers? and have a nice travel!
