Asia Experience as Xmas gift

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are about to spend 17 weeks in SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos).

I'm struggling for a Christmas gift since we are about to go travelling. He has all the travel gear he needs so I though a great "experience" might be a good idea.

Can anyone recommend a really great 1 or 2 day tour that would be around $100 usd pp or less? I'm open to lots of ideas, trekking, snorkelling, volunteering, food tours, we love most things! But I would prefer something a bit grassroots, you know - small group, giving back to the community, etc, and something you've done firsthand and really loved!

I'm posting this in Thailand forum but open to ideas in the other countries listed above.

As an example, I did Elephantstay (http://www.elephantstay.com/) in Ayutthaya a few years ago and LOVED it but its a bit too expensive for me to give as a gift this year.

Any and all suggestions are really appreciated.

Jen

Jan 13 is national children's day if you happen to be in Thailand at that time.

Up north my wife and I go to the our local village school and give the kids books pens pencils etc and some treats.

At least you know how your money is being spent and yes you are giving back to the community.

Oh and never pay to voulenteer always check out the places first as there are a lot of rip offs out there .

17 weeks wow have a great trip.

Cheers

My girlfriend brought me to the Four Seasons in Bangkok and got me a good ribeye steak and a bottle of Pinot Noir. When you are traveling that long (if you like beef), and haven't gotten a good steak, it's amazing.

Tried and true.

Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately we won't be in Thailand until 23 January. The Four Seasons idea might work, I know he would love a good red and a good meal! But I'm still not 100% sure so keep any other ideas coming. Thank you in advance!
