Solo travelling around sea for 3 months for £3000? Where to spend my time?

I'm planning on taking a gap year around Thailand,Cambodia,Vietnam and maybe Laos for 3 months. Would £1000 a month be enough to travel and stay in decent hostels, and to see some of the sights? The £3000 doesn't include the plane tickets though,my parents kindly offered to pay for that.
Also is 4 countries too much for 3 months? Or would it be better to stay in 2/3 countries for longer?

hi
£1000 a month for SE Asia is a good budget....you should have no problems getting to see and do all that is on offer. Generally a month in each of the countries mentioned is good however fitting an extra country in shouldnt be a problem.......i guarantee you will meet other backpackers trying to do the same in less time. i would suggest spending a full month in Vietnam, fantastic place to travel and cheap, and dividing the remaining 8 weeks between the other 3 countries.

As ger says, that budget is fine......not flash but enough for a room, decent food, activities, some nights out etc.

Based on my interests I'd roughly make it a month each in Vietnam and Thailand and 2 weeks each in Cambodia and Laos....obviously depends on what you like doing...

Thanks for the help,I'm thinking of spending the majority of my time in Laos and Vietnam. I only have a vague idea of an itinerary but I prefer it that way anyway. It's great to know that I've got a decent budget for my first time round.

Dont forget about things like travel insurance, inoculation's, backpack, gear etc. that can eat into your budget. All though i agree it is a good budget never hurts to save up abit more to give you some freedom and some big nights out could obviously hit the budget if your not careful. I am in se asia now and its the perfect place to not to far ahead im always staying longer places i like and getting bored at others and leaving sooner than i expected etc.

I should have mentioned that the £3000 that I have budgeted is only for food, hostels, the travel between places and general spending money.
I have saved almost 4000 so I'm hoping that the extra 1000 will cover travel insurance, anything else I need to buy and I hope I have money left over in case I overspend,I'm not very good at budgeting though so I guess I'll need to learn.
