I'm with the MOH now.

I was working on average 60-65hr/week. Leave? Whats that?
Just kidding! About 7-10day annual leave then.
I still have to take calls and reply emails while on leave.

I left the private sector 8 months ago.
It was a good training ground for me, just like NS.

Did you escape NS?

U have only 7 to 10 days of leave in Civil Service ???

No, I did NS. Parts of me are just as damaged as the rest of Singaporeans, for the benefit of the Ruling party and its lackeys. As long as these cockroaches are around, I guess nothing will change.

And these cockroaches breed really fast from what I heard (i.e. the new breed of so-called scholars).

I heard ur CPF has dried out. Some people have gambled it away. Is it true?

That's why they keep holding on to ur money, and paying themselves 5 to 6 times the salary of Obama.

7-10day annual leave when I was working in the private sector. I did not use my full annual quota. I really felt guilty.

Now I'm working 8-5 (5 days/week), a better way to make a living. And getting by very ok.
I will be taking my full 14day annual leave about mid-Feb '13 (straight after CNY).

Your NS that bad, huh?!
As for the kachuah and CPF, I'm not going there. LOL

Yea, thats it for me. Been there done that.
No OT but I pack up by about 6 most days. I have a great boss in my department (so far) and my section supervisor is quite reasonable for a Malaysian.
8-5 is all work and very little play, except for our lunch break. Then 5-6 is our discussion and winding down period But thats just in my department.

You should try coming back and work. You may find it to be a good experience after all.
Ni qiang huayi ma?

It's jiang, not qiang. U got me confused for a while. Yes, wo jiang.

For those who doesn't speak Chinese, he was asking me if I speak Chinese, I said yes, I do. And my Chinese is as good as Mainland Chinese's, because I used to rent an apartment with them in Scotland.

8 to almost 6, would be 50 hours. Hmm ...

I'm keen about this job because part of my job required me to teach and develop programs, which basically means I can OPENLY surf whatever I want.

I stand corrected.
I always thought j, zh and q are interchangeable in pinyin. I learn something new today.

(Hey Snow, I'm Peranakan and my second language in school is Malay).
I speak better Hokkien than Mandarin, so excuse my error.

#22:

the 1-hour lunch break isn't counted as part of the official working hours. official working hours for my previous job were 0830-1800 Mon-Thur & 0830-1730 Fri = 42 hours, though the contract stated minimum 44 hours. reality was more like 0830 to 1900-2300 plus some weekends & public holidays. & as some bosses like to say, everyone has 168 hours to spare per week. but i had 18 days of annual leave, & 21 days after 7 years of service. a few friends in private sector worked 0830-1700 & left work on the dot, but had only 7 days of annual leave. varies by field of work too.

Oh, so my 49.5 hours should be seen as 49.5 - 5.5 (lunch breaks from Monday to Saturday) = 44 hours

Taken as 0.5 hours on Saturdays. I guess the reason why they are so particular about the hours is because I have to teach as well. Lesson timings.

Teaching and Research, give me lots of freedom @ work. Other than meetings and lessons, I should be able to do as I please.
