In Otavalo - Hike to El Lechero and San Pablo lake

Hi, was wondering if anyone has hiked to El Lechero and San Pablo lake from Otavalo. Is it safe to go alone? and how many hours is the trek? Anyone else in Otavalo right now?

Definitely check out Runa Tupari tours while you are here. They offer treks to Cuicocha and Mojanda lakes among other tours. I'm going to Cuicocha on Monday with them. It was only $30 and they added me to another group that was going. So far there is only 3 of us. I'll see what I can find out in town about getting to El Lechero and San Pablo. I might rent a mountain bike. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well to answer my own question, yes these places can easily be hiked to from town. I took a taxi to parque condor today which is up on the same road to El Lechero and Lago San Pablo, then I walked back to town, it's about a 4.5 km walk with amazing views. It was getting dark so I didn't have a chance to explore the area around the lake but I'm going tomorrow. I also hiked to Peguche waterfalls today. It was beautiful and only about a 45 minute walk. I'll post a link to my photos when I'm done editing them.
