Just a heads-up to anyone heading for La Isla over the next few days that Cadeca is not yet accepting the new CAD $20 for conversion. After checking with the Cadeca head honchos by phone, the Cadeca teller who helped me out this morning said that she expected a resolution permitting conversion of the new bill within the next 3-4 days.

The new 20s were okay on the 16th in Havana, I'm sure the rest of the country will catch up almost immediately, if it hasn't happened already...Cheers,
Terry

Wow, Terry. What time of day on the 16th was it? It was on the morning of the 16th that I tried and was turned down. My teller remarked that she had never seen CAD $20s of the type I wanted to convert (I told her that until that week I hadn't either), but that she had seen the new(ish) $50s and $100s, which, as we all know, are readily accepted.8
This was after lunch on Friday at the Banco Metropolitano that's just down the hill and around the corner from the National Hotel, right on La Rampa.I've spoken to my friends since and the Cadeca at the National accepted them on Saturday too.
Hopefully all the Cadecas/Banks will be up to speed by tomorrow. If there's one thing the Cubans do well it's accepting foreign cash...
Cheers,
Terry

Tudo – where was the bank that turned you down? I never carry anything less than a hundred. I was getting $97cuc for every hundred Canadian..
Terry – never go to the Banco Metropolitano at the beginning of the month. To many old people picking up their pension or maybe it was only at the bank we deal with on Galiano y San Jose.
