Also # 72.....Do you have an Argentine DNI (cedula)? Do you have an Argentina passport? If so you can use either and avoid the reciprocity fee, I know people who have done both.If you were born here in Argentina, most likely you have a DNI, but if you are like many you might have misplaced it. It would be worth it to dig it out or apply for one at the Argentina embassy. A birth certificate would probably be insufficient, as it is not evidence of present status.
My niece became a citizen "by descent" (she was born in the US) and received a DNI from the Argentine Consulate in Houston. She traveled to Argentina through BA and did not pay the fee because she used it to enter, not her US passport. However, this was before the pre-printed form requirement on January 7, 2013, so it is not determinative. Her leaving Argentina without an Argentine passport and without an Argentine entry stamp in her US passport was problematic, but she was able to do it.
If you do not have a DNI, you should be able to get one from the nearest Argentine Consulate. I believe you must appear in person, with an original copy of your birth certificate, the necessary pictures and a money order for the fee.

Mendocinoteacher - thanks for your sound advice. Left Argentina decades ago and don't have a DNI so will look at contacting the Argentine Embassy either for letter to convince airline that the fee is not required or to apply for a passport.78
Which bit is confusing? The bit that about needing to pay it online before you travel to Argentina, no if nor buts? Or is it the you can't pay it on arrival, in fact you probably won't be boarded on your flight, is that that bit you find confusing?79
Apparently traveling to Argentina is too confusing and annoying these days... more fun to travel to other places where you can be robbed on the streets with less hassle entering the country.When Argentina gets a clue and throws Cristina out of office (or the currency collapses -- which appears to be coming soon) it'll be worth traveling to Argentina again.
Meanwhile, there are countless places in Latin America that have much to offer at far less hassle (and prices) than this cluster-F being inflicted on tourists who want to travel throughout Argentina... and shower tourist money on the small businesses all across the country.

Most people enter Argentina simply filling in a tourist card. It is only visitors of three nationalities (and not the biggest tourist numbers either) who pay a reciprocity fee and the ones who need a visa pretty much need one for everywhere else in SA too. Few people stop to think what it is like for a tourist to enter their own country or the costs and hassles involved. Filling in an online form isn't really complicated. But where we go and why, or why not, is a personal decision.81
My daugher and I are planning a return trip to Argentina in April, 2013. We visited in April 2010 and paid the reciprocity fee. I actually obtained my credit card statement to show that I paid. It does not show on the passport that we paid a fee. Do I have to pay again? I've tried to write an email about this on the reciprocity fee website and did not receive an informative answer (they just referred me back to the website). Does anyone know about this?85
Interesting post on another forum:We recently returned from a trip to Patagonia (with Iguazu & Mendoza as bookends). I was amazed at how many people at the airport in Atlanta were shocked about the fee and scrambling to apply, pay & print out the receipt. Some didn't even know there WAS a reciprocity fee. Some just had old info and thought they had to pay in BAs. I have to admit that Delta was prepared with a computer & printer available. Our ticket booking agent informed us as soon as the ruling came down (back in Aug. ??). Since we were already following it, we had seen the MANY postings about the subject. I personally can't imagine taking off for a vacation in a foreign country without doing at least a little research! BTW, we had a GREAT time!

Has anyone entered through Puerto Iguazu lately and know if the new requirement has been implemented there? I'm American and have never paid the fee before.Thanks

Yes, it has been implemented in Puerto Iguazu. It has been implemented in every entry point now (except for specific cruise ship entry until June 30).
