When doing the reverse trip 2 years ago, we paid an arranged taxi driver $60 to take 2 of us from the Managua airport to Leon.

This is the ongoing and repeated saga of the extra cost of flights that arrive or depart at ungodly hours. Sometimes people think they have found a wonderful deal, only looking at the airfare. Other times people have no choice as the only flight to a certain destination is at a horrible time. Of course, you have to arrive at the airport early also.

Not only do you have to look at the car fare but also have to decide if you want the risk of going from city to city in the middle of the night. In the day, there is a cheap shuttle van to La UCA (in Managua) from Leon but you mentioned you can't leave during the day.

Ask a couple of taxidrivers and you will know it, or ask the owner of your hotel to arrange a taxi and compare prices...
