Ferry to Ilha Grande

My flight is at Rio Airport 11:25.
Plan is to take a bus to Angra do Reis and then ferry to Ilha Grande.

Do you know about ferry schedules?
How long approx. it takes from Rio Airport to Angra?

Do I have enough time to make it?

Here is some bus and ferry schedule info:
http://www.ilhagrande.org/Como-chegar-Ilha-Grande

And for general info for readers, typing the name of the place and the words "como chegar" (how to get there) into your browser usually pulls up some sites with good directions and schedule info.

Thanks.
If I understood that correctly, last ferry will leave from Angra 16:00pm.
Is there any possibilities to get into Ilha Grande after that last catamaran??

And it takes approx. 3h Rio-Angra by bus.
So there will be hurry, especially from airport to bus station.

I was thinking that it could be much easier to take a taxi from airport to Angra.
Do you have estimate, how much a taxi could be Rio-Angra??

Is it easy to get a private ride to Angra from Airport?

Last Angra ferry is the catamaran at 16h. Forget about Angra, get off the bus 30km earlier at Conceicao de Jacarei, the closest harbour to Ilha Grande with a dozen crossings every day, R$20. Faster, cheaper. The harbour is 5mins walk from the main road, Costa Verde buses should be able to drop you off.

Like I said, "typing the name of the place and the words "como chegar" (how to get there) into your browser usually pulls up some sites with good directions and schedule info."

I think you should get information about the weather (www.climatempo.com.br – cidade = Angra dos Reis). The rainy season has started and the whole last week was raining. Ilha Grande doesn't worth a visit in such condition IMO. Well, let's say that weather is not a problem and your flight landed on time. Now you have to confront the bureaucracy on the airport. One hour? Two hours? I've done a rough search in internet: 1- cidaderiodejaneiro.olx.com.br – Rio/Angra- round trip= R$550.00; 2- Quality Driver = + - R$1.00/kilometer – Rio/Angra/Rio = + - R$300.00. 3) Sul Transfer = R$660.00 (three people) R$740.00 (four people). I personally asked some taxi driver how much they would charge for a trip from Barra da Tijuca to Angra. “Three hundred and fifty” (one person) was the answer. Too much expensive IMO. It's a shot to reach Ilha Grande at the same day. I wouldn't try, but I'm the kind of a person that doesn't like to leave the comfort zone, so maybe my opinion is not so good.

Last week when I was there it rained one day and was cloudy the next, which sucked, not much to do. The past two days have been beautiful. So you never know.

I have already paid my flights, and now I am planning my trip. I am going to Brazil at january, and I hope there is better weather then than at the moment.

Thanks for interesting opinions. I am going to try Ilha Grande at the same day.
Now I am wondering, what will be the way to do it for 3-4 persons.

With taxi or some private vehicle I think I can clearly make it, but like mentioned above it is quite expensive. And with bus, it is going to be rush.

Any ideas; how should I get from Rio Airport to Ilha grande in time??

(Flight is at Rio 11:25)

Land at 11.30, you'll be out by about 12.30, change just enough cash to get the Excecutivo bus direct to the main Rodoviario bus station and use the ATMs there (the ones at the airport are busy and often broken) for getting enough cash to last all the way through Ilha Grande (no exchange or ATM on the island). Then hop on the first Costa Verde bus (departs hourly) towards Angra/Paraty. It's 100km/2hrs or so to Conceicao de Jacarei so you may be there around 16 or 17h, with the last ferry leaving at 18h15. If you miss it there are still private speedboat operators that can put you across at higher cost.
Due to your late arrival time it's going to be tight - so get n the mindset of not catching the ferry and things can only go well. Then simply find a cheap place to stay in Conceicao and get on the first boat the next morning.
If you just miss the Costa Verde bus, go outside the bus station at the taxi stand, turn left and walk 200m to the minibuses parked below the viaduct and ask for the minibus to Conceicao/Angra for R$30, not as comfy but slightly faster, and it may depart well before the Costa Verde bus.

Thanks Jeroen, this sounds great.

Especially that minibus, if it is only R$30 and if it is also faster.
Maybe I should try that one even before the bus.

And those private speedboat operators was also good advice, because I am going to book accomodation on Island, so if I miss last ferry, I can pay some extra to get there, because I have already paid for the accomodation.

Do you know what kind of ferries those are, which are leaving from Conceicao de Jacarei? Because that option is not in any guidebook....always telling to go to Angra.

And do you know, if there is also private speedboat operators at Angra?

I dont believe there is such thing there in Angra, and if there is, it is probably very expansive. The best way to enjoy Ilha Grande is by Sailboats no doubt, but if you dont know anyone that haves one, it will be kinda impossible to do sailing there. You are already in track with what seems to be the best alternative for you: the tours companies that offers ferrys, trekking and scubadiving there. It a remarkable place really, one of the best smaller trips to get in the coast of Brazil (if the weather is right though...)

You'll find folks with private boats in Angra trying to make extra money in high season (which means enough tourists to make it worth their while), but it is hit or miss.

The ferries from Conceicao are like the one in the photo in the link posted above http://conceicaodejacarei.com.br/Barcos-Passeios-Translados - they look like modified fishing boats to me. Comfy enough for the 45min trip.
