Western Sichuan Itinarary helpHey guys
Me and a friend are going to leave Chengdu on Monday for Western Sichuan for 8 days thinking of stopping off in Kangding, Danba, Tagong and Ganzi
My question is what do you guys think is the best way to do the trip? Go all the way to Ganzi first and work down or start off at Danba? I hear there is a direct bus to Danba from Chengdu and then possibly we are able to catch a minibus from Danba to Tagong?
I haven't got the latest up to date lonely planet so not sure how things have changed since the last edition.......Please could anyone help me?

1I already finished my trip on Chengdu- Danba- Tagong- Daocheng- Yunnan- Tibet.....(2012.10.01~11.05)
Herewith the info on Chengdu- Danba- Tagong.
By bus at Chadianzi bus station: it departed at 06:30 and arrived at 21:30 with RMB148pp. Bear in mind that, there was no lunch break.
Chadianzi bus station can reach by metro#2. I suggest you buy the bus ticket advance to ensure you are on schedule. Usually, the bus is once daily. At Golden Week, I watched there are 4 buses on Chengdu- Danba.
Danba- Ba Mei- Tagong:
There are a lot of mini-Van on Danba- Ba Mei- Tagong.
Danba- Ba Mei: RMB35pp, travel time was 3.50hrs.
Ba Mei- Tagong: RMB 20pp, travel time was 1.00hr.
On Danba- Ba Mei, there is a scenic road.
I stayed Ba Mei one night. If you are rush, just has a short break (totally 1~2hours).
I suggest you paid a surplus charge (approx. RMB20pp) to the driver and request a stop at Huiyuan Temple. After that, heading to Ba Mei. At the junction of Danba/Ba Mei/Tagong, there is a group of pagoda (almost of 100). Besides that, it is Ganzi's biggest 'Jing Chuag'. Tibetian pray and gathering at the back.
On Ba Mei- Tagong, there is a 'stone forest'. I haven't visit because it less worth than Kumming's.
I stayed a GH which at the opposite side of Tagong's Golden Pagoda with RMB100/common room. Noted that, all common rooms are facing the Golden Pagoda, thus it has great view (the Pagoda+ grassland+ snow cap) all the time.
There is a GH inside the Golden Pagoda, but can't see the whole views.
Don't miss the 4-Pagodae which behind the Tagong Temple. The 4-Pagodae painted with 'Red', 'Green', 'White' and 'Amber'.
It is worth to has a 2-hours walk to the hill that crossed the river.
Starting at the Tagong Temple's square, against from Ba Mei direction with 2 blocks, right turn and cross the bridges. After the 2nd. bridge, there is a new repaired Tibetian Temple. Walking time need 30min.
After the visit, back to the 2nd. bridge, there is a small car road at the left which along the river to another Tibetian Temple. Walking time need another 30min.
In front of that Temple, there is a trail to the hill. Just walk for 100m, it has a great view oversee Tagong Temple+ the 4 Pagodae, the Golden Pagoda, the grassland, the snow caps and another Golden Temple.
At 09:00hrs, there is a bus but not stop.
There are a lot of mini-Van on that route. I took Tagog.ng- Xin Du Qiao with RMB20pp, travel time was 1.00hr. AFter that, I don't have further info because I was heading to Daochen.
