Amritsar Day-Trip
Hi guys,I am on a very tight schedule in India and unfortunately only have 4 days set-aside for Delhi. I am really upset about not having squeezed Amritsar into the itinerary and was considering doing an (exhausting) day-trip to Amritsar from Delhi. Flying one way (arriving 8am) and leaving by train (at 5pm).
Would a full-day as such give me enough time to see everything Amritsar has to offer?
Thanks,

rather than flying why not look at an overnight train-save time travelling overnight and you'll have more time in Amritsar when you get there.2
Golden Temple, Jaliawala Bagh and Wagha Boarder (India-Pakistan Boarder) are the must visit places in Amritsar. Must see the Wagha border 'lowering of the flags' ceremony in the evening.5
Amritsar's highlights are it's atmosphere rather than specific sights. Apart from the Golden Temple and Jalianwala Bagh, the city doesn't have much in the way of great things to see. A wander through the old town (there are some lovely stone Havelis around) is nice, and there are a few other temples and palaces which you can see if you have time, but if you're in a rush, then you'll certainly get a worthwhile visit out of a few hours at the Golden Temple and the surrounding neighborhood. I wouldn't bother visiting the border unless you're going to be there for the closing ceremony, particularly if you're only going to have a few hours in the city.6
You're going to be quite tired during a rushed visit and, may not enjoy it due to the tight time constraints. There is a Sikh temple in Delhi; admittedly nowhere near as impressive as the one in Amritsar, but if you can't make it to Amritsar, it's worth a look in.
I'd be looking at doing another journey to India for a longer time and plan what and where you want to see.

Skip the Wagha border, not worth it.Sounds like you are just rushing around India. It sounds like you do not plan to"see" India at all................8
Skip Wagah border if not visiting during the ceremony that happens before sunset. At the Golden Temple, if you want the true experience, eat a meal at the 'langar' or free kitchen, where everything is organised by volunteers. (it will be a vegetarian meal).
Jalian wala bagh is definitely a must see.
Nothing else to see at Amritsar.
