Take a look at www.boavista.rr.gov.br – there will be a test to work in the public service. Take a look to this one, too: www.ajuri.org.br. Don't be late. This opportunity ends on Nov, 23.

OP states he is "in the process of learning portuguese". All tests for public jobs are in Portuguese, and most include at least one essay question whose grammar and spelling is also rated in addition to content (much of which can be culture based).

The test consists on 40 questions where you have to chose one among 5 options. You need not to write in Portuguese, only put a “X” into the right small square. With a bit of luck....His wife can try to do it, too. Be sure your profile allows you to get the job. Brazil is the champion of bureaucracy. The test will be on December. Learn Portuguese as much as you can. French grammar is very similar to Portuguese grammar. Another (maybe better)option is the Boa Vista Airport. They need 5 people fluent in English. Look for VRG Linhas Aéreas SA at the airport. Don't give up, go ahead.
good luck

Amobr - You are right for a better job. I did a test to be a technical writer in Portuguese after being retired. It started at 8:00 am and finished at 2:00 pm. More than 1000 people were trying to get this job which was going to pay a reasonable salary. I failed, but I've tried. Then I changed to buy, sell and rent properties. Much better. Coming back to the test in Boa Vista- They are going to pay minimum salary. The applicant for the job is not going to write a composing, but just put a 'x' on the answer he thinks is the right one. I don't think is a job for the rest of a life, but for someone who is unemployed by now and has to catch what he find.
