3You probably should have read this (see top of branch page) before you posted:
Here are some tips to help you find the information you want and need about Central America:
1. Have a good look around the Thorn Tree before asking your question - quite often your question (or one very similar to it) will have been asked and answered before. Some of the most frequently asked questions are included in this thread below.
2. Research before asking a question and make your question as specific to your situation as possible. It will help you get better, more detailed and useful answers from the community. Invest some preliminary time and our knowledgeable community will help you fill in the gaps.
3. Explore Lonely Planet's Destinations, an online resource which has a wealth of key info and tips.

5Cancun (though not in Central America -- I have to add this so the pedantics don't correct me) is a good starting point because you should be able to fly there cheaper than most other places.
You haven't mentioned your budget, your interests or how much time you have, so it's not easy to give advice. There are some great places to visit between Cancun and the Belize border.
Head south to Belize. I'd say visit at least one of the cayes (islands) for some sun, sea & sand, then head west to San Ignacio as a base for activities in that region (Mayan ruins, cave trips, rainforest, ziplining).
From San Ignacio, you have a couple of options. You could head west to Tikal then Guatemala City and Antigua, or you could head to southern Belize and then on to Honduras or Guatemala by water taxi (ferry).
The BelizeBus website has lots of transportation information regarding Belize.
By the way, I sincerelee hope that I haven't ofended any feckless "stoned" forum member with minor tipografical errors, so there!

9One of the best trails is in Costa Rica, in Corcovado, requires permits/guides and 3 nights, camp at ranger stations, 8 hours hikes in raw dense jungle, the most bio diverse place on the planet, according to National Geographic.
Otherwise, the tourist trail starts in Cancun, goes south to Belize, then thru Guatemala, then to Honduras, over El Salvador, all around Nicaragua, and and splits in two in Costa Rica, and you go to Panama via the Pacific or the Atlantic side. Allow 3 months for 6 countries, too see and do everything popular on the tourist trail, depending on interest, dont miss the great scuba diving, endless volcanoes to hike, and lot of great beaches, rivers and waterfalls, and ruins here and there.
